Flaker Hurdles His Way to Top of 2022


To wrap up the indoor season we are taking a further look at the best athletes in each class . We are naming a boys sophomore of the year as well as naming an additional top four athletes from the class of 2022.

Jayden Flaker had a strong freshman indoor season that saw him finish third in the 55m hurdles, and run on the runner-up 4x200m relay at the state meet. This winter Flaker went to the next level dominating the 55m hurdles in a sophomore record 7.65 at the Class A state meet, the sixth best time in state history. He added a runner-up finish in the 200m, and anchored the winning 4x200m relay. At the Terrier Classic he recorded the seventh best 400m (50.18) and the seventh best 200m (22.81) in state history. Jayden lead all sophomores in the 200, 400m and 55m hurdles, statewide he ranked first in hurdles, and second in the 200m & 400m only behind his older brother Jarett. Flaker also ran a leg on the fourth fastest 4x200m at the New England Championship. For his outstanding effort he is our sophomore of the year for 2020 indoor track and field season.



Frank Morang (Cheverus) Morang put together an excellent sophomore campaign that saw him finish as the state leader in triple jump (44-8 1/4). Frank recorded a pair of runner-up finishes at the Class A state meet in the long jump (21-8 1/2) & triple jump (44-1). In the long jump he jumped over 21 feet six different meets, while he added six meets over 43 feet in the triple. Morang added the hurdles to his repertoire, clocking a best of 8.13 in the 55m hurdles, an event he placed fourth in at the state meet. For the class of 2022 he ranked triple jump (1st), long jump (1st), 55m hurdles (3rd), 55m dash (2nd), 200m (5th).



Nigel Katende (Lewiston) Katende took home the triple jump state title with a clutch 44-1 1/4 personal best to win the Class A title. He also finished third in the long jump with a personal best 21-6 3/4. Nigel repeated the 31-6 3/4 jump at the New England Championship to earn himself All-New England honors with his sixth place finish. For the class of 2022 he ranked triple jump (2nd), long jump (2nd), High jump (2nd), 55M (7th), 200m & 400m (9th).



Andrew Farr (Gorham) Farr came on strong at the end of the year after rehabbing an injury during the early part of the season. Andrew had a strong state meet that saw him finish as the runner-up in the 400m (51.67), and third in the 55m (6.58). On the season he also added a best of 23.83 for 200m. For the class of 2022 he ranked 55m (1st), 400m (2nd), & 200m (3rd).



Zach Barry (Scarborough) - Barry was a standout distance runner for the class of 2022 this winter. Zach broke the sophomore all-time best 800m record with his 1:57.12 from the BU Last Chance meet, the 11th fastest 800m in state history. At the state meet he helped the Red Storm to the team title with a leg on the runner-up 4x800, a fourth place personal best in the mile (4:31.68) & a fourth place in the 800m (2:02.73). For the class of 2022 he ranked 800m (1st), Mile (1st), & 2 Mile (3rd)
