Turn Back The Clock Tuesday: Tia Tardy of MDI Sets Class B 800m Record
Today we take a look at the 2017 Class B girls 800m meter race that saw Mt Desert Island senior Tia Tardy set the Class B state meet record with her 2:14.67 winning effort.
The pace was quick right from the start with Kaylee Porter of Erskine Academy taking it out, Tardy took over the lead at 300m coming through the first la in 66.x. Tardy maintained a small gap down the backstretch, but Porter wasn't down as she came even with Tia with 150m to go. The two pushed each other around the bend with Tardy looking unfazed pulled away for the victory.
Tardy would go on to set the state all-time best at the New England championship clocking 2:09.64, she is the only Maine high school girl to break 2:10 for 800m outdoors.
