To wrap up the indoor season we are taking a further look at the best athletes in each class . We are naming a boys junior of the year as well as naming an additional top four athletes from the class of 2021.

Falmouth junior Ben Greene was on track to contend for an individual state title at the Class A State meet but during a track workout prior to the meet he stepped on the rail at the Bates track and severely sprained his ankle. The injury left Greene unable to compete at states.

Before the injury Greene stood out though posting top marks for the class of 2023 in the 800m (1:56.73), Mile (4:20.07) & 2 mile (9:42.88). In the 800m his time set a new SMAA record and in doing so he defeated indoor record holder Mahamed Sharif, his time was seventh fastest in state indoor history. Greene posted the fastest mile in the state this winter with his fourth place 4:20.07 effort at the Dartmouth Relays in January while his 2 mile was fourth best in the state. Additionally he ran a leg on the second fastest 4x800 posted this season as well.

For his outstanding range and fast times this indoor season Ben Greene is our pick for the top junior in the class of 2023.


Andrew Munroe (Bangor) - Munroe showed excellence across a wide range of events this winter. He clocked the fastest 200m (23.32) and long jump (21-0) among all juniors. He had the second best marks in the 55m hurdles (8.24) & 400m (53.08). At the Class A state meet he finished fourth in the 200m (23.32), and fifth in both the hurdles (8.24) and long jump (20-6 3/4), the hurdles and 200m were both personal bests.


Ryan Gendron (Gorham) - Gendron had a strong close to his season that saw him clear a personal best 6-4 at the Class A state meet, his effort earned him a runner-up finish and spot in the New England Championship. He made the most of NE appearance clearing 6-3 to finish on the podium with a sixth place finish. He also added the 9th best hurdles (8.75) and 11th best long jump (19-2 3/4) in class of 2023.


Tyler Patterson (Brunswick) - Patterson took his running to another level this winter. He posted personal bests at every distance 800m through 2 mile. At the Class A state meet he was the runner-up in the mile (4:29.52) & 800m (2:01.52) as well as running on the winning 4x800m relay. Earlier in the season he posted a 4:24.55 effortin the mile at the Dartmouth Relays finishing sixth, he also won the Special Olympics New Year's Relay mile. For the Class of 2021 he ranked second in 800m, Mile, and 2 mile.


Jacob Jackson (Edward Little) - Jackson posted the top triple jump (43-3), the second best long jump (20-10 1/2) & a tie for fourth best high jump in the class of 2021. At the Class A state meet set a personal best in the triple jump en route to a third place finish, he also set a new best in the long jump to finish fourth. He also was fourth in the high jump with a 6-0 clearance.
