Bossong Sets The Standard For Class of 2021
To wrap up the indoor season we are taking a further look at the best athletes in each class . We are naming a girls of the year as well as naming an additional top four athletes from the class of 2021.
Cheverus junior Victoria Bossong had another impressive indoor track season this winter. Bossong did the sprint triple at the Class "A" state meet winning the 55, 200m, & 400m. Victoria equalled her state meet best in the 55m clocking 7.20, she broke her own state meet record in the 400m with her winning effort of 56.95, and added a state leading time of 25.50 in the 200m.
At the New England Championship Bossong came up inches short of winning the 300m with a great last 50 meters, her time of 39.59 broke her own state record in the event, and earned her another spot of the podium at New England's. She added another All-New England performance in the 55m with her fourth place finish in 7.27.
Earlier this winter Victoria represented the United States in the Reykjavik International Games in Iceland as part of Team NSAF. She appeared to win the 400m in the meet with a personal best time of 54.96, but was disqualified after the race. Bossong was poised to make a big run at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in the 400 but didn't get the chance as the meet was canceled due to the Coronavirus.
She posted the top performances in the state and junior class for the 55, 200 & 400m this winter.
For her outstanding efforts throughout the season that included records, and state titles Victoria Bossong is our choice for the junior of the year for the 2019-20 indoor track and field season.
Alyssa Elliott (Bangor) - Elliott had an excellent junior season that saw her win the Class "A" the long jump (17-9 1/2) & triple jump (37-6). She went on to earn All-New England honors in the long jump at the New England Championship with a sixth place finish. Earlier in the season she set a new PVC-EMITL record in the triple jump with a 38-0 leap, the jump moved her to the fourth best in state indoor history. She had the top marks for the class of 2021 in both jumps, and was third ranked in the hurdles.
Karley Piers (Falmouth) - Piers was the top distance runner in the Class of 2021 this winter. She successfully made the switch from the hardwood to the oval clocking 5:12.10 for the mile, 11:14.81 for 2 miles, and 2:24.42 for 800m. She led the class of 2021 in the mile & 2 mile, and was the second ranked in the 800m. Piers finished third in the Class "A" state meet in the 2 mile, and 11th at the New England Championship.
Anna Reny (Cony) - Reny led the class of 2021 in the 55m hurdles with a 8.85 effort, she also posted the second best 200m with a 26.82, while posted the sixth best 55m time of 7.64 effort. At the Class B state meet she posted a runner-up effort int he 200m, plus a fourth place in the 55m hurdles. Reny won the KVAC Championship Class B hurdle title this winter as well.
Carly Warn (Winslow) - Warn had a great Class "B" state meet that saw her win the triple jump and finish runner-up in the long jump and 55m dash. Warn started off with a huge personal best of 16-8 1/4 in the long jump to finish second, after that she added another personal best of 7.44 in the 55m to finish second again. She closed out the meet with a personal best jump of 35-5 1/2 to win the triple jump. Statewide she ranked 55m (7th), LJ (8th) & TJ (4th).
