Name: Emma Noonan
School: Bonny Eagle High School
What was your most memorable race/meet?
My most memorable meet was either the 2019 Indoor State Championship where our 4x200 qualified for New Englands or the Dartmouth Invitational where I fell (very hard) after handing off the baton in the SMR and had to roll off the track before I got stepped on.
Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
In cross country, definitely Camden Hills and Gorham. Gorham is an amazing team in both cross country and track and they are all such kind girls.
What was your greatest accomplishment?
Breaking the school record in the long jump and the SMR.
If you could do it all over again what would you change about your xc/track&field career in high school?
I would take it more seriously during my freshman and sophomore year now that I realize the importance of nutrition, mental strength, and staying healthy.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
I definitely have had to overcome a lot of injuries, but I was always coming back stronger. Mental strength was also a large obstacle, believing in yourself and thinking positively is so important.
What will you miss the most?
My teammates. We have all grown so close and they are some of my best friends.
What advice you would give to younger athletes?
Trust your training and never lose focus. Believing in yourself will help you achieve things that you never knew you could achieve.
What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?
My cross country and track coaches taught me to never give up and that I can do things that I never thought I was capable of doing. Thank you to all of them: Dyer, Burleson, Skip, Hesler, and Davis. I owe everything to them.
How do you feel about missing your senior season due to the coronavirus?
It is really upsetting, however, I feel like this is a good lesson. It teaches us to live life in the moment and to never take what we have for granted.
What are your college plans?
I'll be running track at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth and majoring in nursing.
Who would you like to say thank you to?
My coaches and my family always kept me positive and made sure that I had everything that I needed, so thank you. I also love my whole team more than anything and they have been amazing to me over the past four years, thank you for all of the fun times and all of the laughs. Especially Chara Sterling, Hannah Kaspereen, and Bella Roberts, you guys have always been there for my failures and successes, thank you. Also, Emma Abbott, Aiden Willey, Anthony Breton and I have gone through four years of cross country together and I will miss them all a lot.
