Ben Greene, Tyler Patterson 1600m Time Trial
Soon to be seniors Ben Greene of Falmouth & Tyler Patterson of Brunswick time trialed a 1600m at Bowdoin College this morning. On the day that the Class A State championship was scheduled to be held, two of Maine's best distance runners used their fitness from the spring to see how fast they could run over 1600m.
The two were paced through 800m by Scarborough's Zach Barry who hit splits of 64.2, 65.7 for a sub 2:10 800m split. After that Tyler Patterson took over the lead with Greene in tow, they clipped off the third quarter in 65.4 with Greene moving to the front just before the final lap. The duo hit the home stretch pretty much even, Patterson moved slightly past Greene in the final ten meters clocking the final lap in 62.5, for a final time of 4:17.9 with Greene a half stride back in 4:18.
Heading into the spring Greene had a mile best of 4:20.07 while Patterson's personal best was 4:24.55. The converted mile times would be approximately 4:19.4-5 for both athletes.
