Name: Ben Drummey
School: Biddeford Highschool
What was your most memorable race/meet?
My most memorable meet would be 2020 Indoor States because I jumped 16' and the support I had was unreal.
Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
Over my high school career my biggest competition was Travis Snyder. Even though I was out by the time he started jumping until my junior outdoor season, he gave me something to push for. I always wanted to jump with him and I think we could have had some great meets together if we still competed against each other this year.
What was your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment was winning states in the pole vault at 16'.
If you could do it all over again what would you change about your xc/track&field career in high school?
I would make sure I take time and warm up. I've always been a person who jumps right into sprints. After dealing with a hamstring injury all season, I've learned my lesson.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
My biggest obstacle was not pushing my hamstring and letting it heal during the early 2020 indoor season. I was jumping higher than i ever have and hated to watch people jump without doing it myself
What will you miss the most?
I'm going to miss the pole vault community we had in Class A. We were all pretty close and had a good time competing together.
What advice you would give to younger athletes?
I would tell the younger athletes to listen to your coach, take your cool down laps and stretch before and after practice, it's worth it in the long run.
What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?
Coach Quint has taught me to look at the big picture. He always pushes us but he is understanding about whatever was going on. When I pulled my hamstring he would encourage me to sit out of small meets rather than pressuring me to compete prematurely.
How do you feel about missing your senior season due to the coronavirus?
I was really disappointed about the season being canceled because I felt like I was on the verge of a breakthrough season coming in the spring.
What are your college plans?
I'm attending the University of Southern Maine and competing on the track team.
Who would you like to say thank you to?
I would like to thank my Mom for supporting me in every way, Coach Quint for pushing me and my Dad/Vault coach for getting me to the point I'm at now and dealing with my bad attitude freshman and sophomore year.
