The PVC Championship descended on Saxl Park in Bangor on Saturday to see who was the best in the conference but more importantly for some who would advance to the Class B state meet in November. With the meet being held on the same course as states it also provided a preview for those harriers that advanced.
Caribou sophomore Kayley Bell continued her strong 2020 season running away from the field to win the title by 23 seconds with her 20:19.95 effort. Bell has won every race she has run in this fall.
Freshman Anna Jandreau of Presque Isle punched her ticket to the state meet with her second-place finish. Jandreau edged Callan Eason of Mt Desert Island 20:42.55 to 20:42.64 in a photo finish.
Junior Grace Munger and sophomore Ella Joyce of MDI finished fourth and fifth. Also qualifying for the state meet as an individual was Annie Raynes of Foxcroft Academy who finished 11th.
Mt Desert Island dominated the team race with all seven runners finishing in the top ten. The Trojans scored just 27 points to easily outdistance runner-up Caribou by 43 points. Old Town with 98 points finished third. All three teams will advance to the state meet.
