Maine State XC: Class C Boys Five Athletes To Watch


2019 Class C State XC Championship


The Class C state meet for boys will take place next Wednesday, November 11 at Saxl Park in Bangor.  With the State of Maine latest updates to the Community Sports guidelines, all athletes will be required to wear a mask when competing which an interesting twist to an already unique season. The competition is expected to tight with a handful of athletes with a chance to take home the state title. Below we highlight five athletes we think you should keep an eye on based on how they have performed this fall.

State meet XC Hub



Aidan Laviolette (Lisbon) 

Grade: Junior

2019 State Meet Finish: State runner-up

2020 Best 5k: 16:55

Laviolette has built on his excellent 2019 season this fall going undefeated through three races. Last time out he clocked 16:55 to win the MVC Championship and state meet qualifier. A year ago he ran to a runner-up finish in the state meet and will have his eyes on the individual championship on Wednesday.

Laviolette's Outlook: "I'm very glad to compete at the state meet during the COVID scenario, I want to run a fast time and do better than I did last year."


William Hileman (Bucksport)

Grade: Freshman

2019 State Meet Finish: 8th grader

2020 Best 5k: 16:57.53

Hileman has had an outstanding freshman season that saw him win the PVC Class C individual title last weekend in a personal best 16:57.53 on the same course the state meet will be held on. On the season he has three wins under his belt. While this will be his first state meet Hileman has shown this fall he's not afraid with anyone, expect him to be in the mix for the individual title.



William Levasseur (St Dom's)

Grade: Senior

2019 State Meet Finish: 13th

2020 Best 5k: 17:15.40

Levasseur has run in four races this fall and has won all of them all. Last time out he won the WMC Class C title at Twin Brook running 17:30.10. A year ago he finished 13th at the state meet, he's in a great position to improve on that finish and remain undefeated on the season.



Joe Crocker (Monmouth Academy)

Grade: Senior

2019 State Meet Finish: 16th

2020 Best 5k: 17:08

Crocker started the season at 19:27 for 5k in his first race while last time out at the MVC Championship and state qualifier he clocked a personal best 17:08 in his runner-up finish at Maranacook. A year ago he placed 16th at the state meet and figures to be in the lead pack o Wednesday.

Crocker's Outlook: "At the state meet what I hope to accomplish is to see if I can run at a higher level of competition, because the harder the goal is the more accomplished you feel, and even if I lose that's fine, the feeling of being able to race against this level of competition is what I enjoy most."



Kyle McClellan (Lisbon)

Grade: Junior

2019 State Meet Finish: 4th place

2020 Best 5k: 17:17

McClellan ran to a fourth-place finish in the state meet last fall and will look to improve on that this year. Last time out he finished as the runner-up in the PVC Class C Championship where he ran a seasonal best on the same course the state meet will be contested on.

McClellan's Outlook: "I'm looking to go for the top, it will be difficult but definitely within reach."
