Boys Race Recap

The question of the day was - "Is Nate going to get another one?". The Answer-"Yep!". Hathaway gets himself another SMAA course record .The old course record of 16:18 held by Bartlett of Lake Region was overtaken by Nate Hathaway's 16:08 , and he made it look easy.

The race was taken out by Jeremy Earl and Logan Marshall as they headed into the trail. Hathaway was not in obvious view but by the mile Hathaway (5:01) moved out in front to be the leader of a large pack .Logan Marshall(Gor), Jeremy Earl(Gor),Tim Belanger(BE),Nick Morris(Scar),Adam Hawkes(Gor),Julian Gazzeloni(Win) and Garret Clemmer (Win) were among the lead group packed tightly behind Hathaway.

Hathaway made separation at mile two with Marshall holding second and keeping Nate in his sights .Earl and Belanger were having a battle for third, but Morris was on their heels along with Hawkes and Clemmer.

Emerging from the woods it was Hathaway, looking like he may go sub 16. He came to the finish with a smooth 16:08 putting him at the top on a course that has had very few break 17 minutes, let alone 16:30. The next runner to come through was Logan Marshall, he was looking to break 16:30 but still finished strong at 16:39, giving him a seasons best. The battle for third was between Earl,Belanger, and Morris. Morris(16:57) took the inside coming down to the finish to edge out Earl(16:57). Belanger(17:01) takes 4th followed by Gorham's #3 Hawkes(17:10).

Teamwise Gorham gave Scarborough everything they could handle, putting their #3 & #4 runners ahead of Scarborough's. But it the end Scarborough behind Hathaway's course record and the depth of their 4-8 runners gave the Red Storm enough for victory (35-37). The two teams will battle once again next weekend at the Western Maine Regional.
