Recap by Lila Gaudrault
Freeport, Yarmouth, and Cape Elizabeth opened their seasons Thursday evening at the Freeport Falcon
4K at Hunter Road Fields. With temperatures topping 80 degrees at the start, all three teams showed early
season fitness as some of Class B's top contenders were established.
Cape sophomore Hadley Mahoney won the girl's race in 16:33, 42 seconds ahead of the second-place
finisher, freshman Madeleine Jones of Yarmouth. Mahoney, last year's Western Maine Conference
Champion, had her season cut short by COVID in 2020 and enters 2021 as one of the top returners in
Class B. After winning both the 1600m (5:20) and 3200m (11:48) at the outdoor track state championship
this spring and having a strong summer of training, she looks to improve on last year's times and lead the
Cape Elizabeth girls to top finishes at championship races.

Cape Elizabeth by 3 points with a score of 31. Freeport placed 3rd with 63 points.

In the boy's race, Freeport's Henry Horne and Cape's Vaughn Lindenau and Owen Patry ran as a strong
pack of three before Horne pulled away in the final mile, winning in 12:55. Lindenau and Patry were
close behind in 13:01 and 13:02, respectively. Horne, a junior, hopes to improve on his 17:32 5k PR at the
upcoming Fleet Feet Southern Maine Classic, where he looks forward to racing teams and individuals
from Class A.
