Updated SMAA indoor track and field league records. Zachary Barry of Scarborough broke the 2 mile record on Tuesday with his 9:30.72 for 2 miles. The previous record of 9:34.4h was set by Portland's Sintayehu Taye back in 2005 during his freshman year when the SMAA competed at the Expo on a 140yd wooden banked track. In that 2005 season Taye won the New England indoor 2 mile title (9:16.65) and went on to set a then national high school freshman record for 3200m outdoors running 9:01.68 at the New England Championships held at Thornton Academy. Barry was a former SMAA record holder in the junior 800m, the senior will be attending the University of Connecticut to continue is academic and athletic career in the fall.
