Looking ahead to 2010, Jack Terwilliger (Cheverus) is the top returner, if he can stay healthy for an entire XC season, there is no telling how fast Jack can run. Scarborough's Nick Morris was the most improved runner in any class this fall, his fastest time in 2008 was a 19:23 at Belfast, he improved that to 16:48 at Twin Brook. If Nick can continue to improve he will be a contender for the individual title. Also look for the talented duo of Logan Marshall and Jeremy Earl to be right in the mix for the Class A title next fall. Tucker Nixon (Marshwood) is another athlete to watch for, Nixon improved a ton in 2009 and if he continues he will be a major threat in 2010. It appears the state title is wide open, whoever puts in the training over the summer, and can stay healthy will have the edge.
Teamwise there are only a handful of squads that return 5 runners. Gorham might be the early favorite in 2010, especially if the rumors of track star Jessie Orach running next fall are true. Scarborough showed their program doesn't rebuild it just reloads will once again be in the mix for the title. Eastern Maine teams Mt. Ararat & Brunswick both return 5 runners, although the Dragons will have to replace their top two. Looking forward to a great 2010 season, the team title is wide open, who is going to step up and do the training neccessary to capture the state title.

Looking ahead to the 2010 individual title, Silas Eastman (Fryeburg) established himself as one of the state's top runners as just a freshman, how good can Eastman be without someone their to push him? Silas will come into the season as the favorite to capture the Class B title. Others that will be training to catch up are Tim Follo (Falmouth), Sam Johnston (Greely), Christian Sleeper (Caribou) & Thomas Bottomely (Cape). Next fall should be excellent, with some top notch talent returning to the trails.
Teamwise, Falmouth will come into the 2010 season as the early favorites, they return 5 runners from a squad that placed 3rd in 2009. More importantly they return their top 3 from that state meet along with 2 more from the top 6. Greely the defending champions will be hit hard from graduation but also didn't have standout Sam Humphries at the state meet, he'll be back as the Rangers look to make it 4 in a row in 2010. Fryeburg Academy could be a team to watch out for they return their entitre top 7, along with Cape Elizabeth who was 4th in 2009 who returns 5 of their top 7. Things should be interesting, Falmouth has been grooming their young athletes for a run at the title, will they get it done? Will Greely be able to reload and make it 4 in a row or will another team surprise.

There is some real young talent in Class C, and it will be on display in 2010. With the defneding state champion Matt McClintok (Madison) back to defend his title, he will be considered the favorite. He should be puhsed by runner-up Chase Brown (Boothbay) once again, who closed the gap down during the championship meets. Others to watch are Griffin Day (Freeport) and Eastern Maine standout Matt Guiod (Mattanawcook) they will be aiming for the top as well.
Teamwise we could be in for another close one in 2010. A young Merricneag team has all 7 runners back, and will be hungry to capture their schools first XC state championship. Freeport who came up 1 point shy in 2009, will be looking to avenge their loss, they return 5 of their top 7 but lose their #2 and #3 runner. Defending state champion Boothbay will be back to try and make it two in a row, after their dramatic one point win this year. The Seahawks also return 5 of their top 7. The team race should be awesome, maybe the best of out all 3 classes next fall.
