Lisbon Girls, Winslow Boys Best in Class C Outdoor Track

The Lisbon girls were a buzzsaw on Saturday at the Class C outdoor track and field championship held at Lewiston High School. The Greyhounds amassed an impressive 119 points to outdistance runner-up Orono by 36 1/2 points.

Sophomore Sarah Moore paced Lisbon with 36 points. Moore won the 100m dash in 12.81, and added a second victory in the long jump with a leap of 17-2, both were personal bests. Sarah added a pair of runner-up finishes in the high jump (5-2) and the triple jump (34-2).




Junior Kayla Cooper added ten points with her 61.56 victory in the 400m. Cooper also ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay as she teamed with Emily Westland, Gabrielle Chessie and Kiana Goldberg to run 52.33. She also a third place effort in the 100m (13.13).

Goldberg won the 100m hurdle title with her 15.81 effort, and was the runner-up in the 300m hurdles running 48.12. While Chessie added a pair of third place efforts in the long jump (16-2) and triple jump (34-0).

Senior Amelia Mooney added a victory in the 1600m racewalk (8:44.62) for the Greyhounds.

For runner-up Orono sophomore Ruth White broke the 3200m Class C state meet record with her 10:46.38 effort. The mark surpassed the record set in 1984 by Christine Snow (10:53.4) of Old Orchard. White teamed with her sister Nora, Ellie Brooks and Katherine Kohtala to win the 4x800m relay in a time of 10:26.59




Houlton freshman Teanne Ewings had a tremendous day winning the 1600m in a personal best 5:02.47, Ewings clocked 73.66 to kick past Ruth White in the final meters. Ewings added another personal best and win the 800m with her 2:24.77

Kent's Hill junior Rose Jenkins won two individual events as she cleared 5-2 in the high jump to win on fewer misses, and took the 300m hurdles in 47.42. Jenkins teamed with Naomi McGadney, Brie Lewis, and Rosalie Klingler to win the 4x400m in 4:23.57.

Other winners were Emma Burr of MCI in the 200m (26.49), her teammate Samantha Martin cleared 9-0 to win the pole vault. Bucksport sophomore Natasha Monreal jumped 34-3 to win the triple jump while senior Cheyenne Cahill of Carrabec won the shot put with a toss of 34-4. Sophomore Maranda Pert of George Stevens Academy repeated as discus champion with a throw of 104-4. Hall-Dale senior Iris Ireland won the javelin with a toss of 123-4.



The Black Raiders of Winslow were the best in Class C boys as they edged out Orono by 11.5 for the team title. Winslow who last won a state title in 2017 in Class B got back on top behind Evan Watts & Joseph Richards big days.

Watts won the 200m dash in a time of 23.31 and added a fourth place in the 400m, and a fifth place in the 100m. He also closed the meet out by running a leg on the 4x400 relay which took first place running 3:39.97.


Sophomore stepped up big for Winslow as well winning the 400m (51.88) by .01 over Lisbon's Aidan Laviolette. He returned to score six more points in the 800m with a 2:06.18 effort. Richards also ran a leg on the winning 4x400 and also ran a leg on the runner-up 4x800 squad to start the day.

Senior Antoine Akoa provided key points in the jumps for the Black Raiders. Akoa leaped out to 41-7 3/4 to take third in the triple jump, and added a fourth in the high jump with a 5-10 clearance.

In the shot put Brady Goodwin was third (40-4 1/2) while senior Zachary St. Pierre jumped 41-2 1/2 to grab fourth in the triple.

Orono junior Owen Connor Self paced the Red Riots scoring. Connor Self won the 110m hurdles in a time of 16.11, was the runner-up in the 300m hurdles (43.42) and added a third in the pole vault with an 11 foot clearance. He also added a leg on the fifth place 4x400 relay.


Sophomore Kaleb Colson of Sumner was a double winner in the distance events. Colson took the 1600m in 4:35.95 then came back to clock a personal best of 1:59.53 to win the 800m.

In the 100m Washington Academy sophomore Kenori Simmons took the title running 11.46. Another sophomore took the 3200m as Bucksport's William Hileman ran 10:05.73. In the 300m hurdles junior Jonah Naratil of Sacopee Valley dominated the field to win in 41.65, while Carter Butterfield of Mt. Abram won the 1600m race walk in a time of 8:12.54

In the jumps, Bucksport senior Colin Simpson leaped 21-11 to edge out Washington Academy senior Cameron Bowser by an inch. Bowser wouldn't be denied in the triple jump as he took first with a jump of 43-1 to defeat Simpson. Foxcroft Academy sophomore Jackson Smith took the high jump with a six foot clearance while in the pole vault Ellis Braga of Searsport cleared 11-6 to take the victory.

Over at the throws Boothbay/Wiscasset junior Kayden Ames tossed it 143-11 to win by thirteen plus feet. In the javelin it was Foxcroft Academy senior Jesse Drury winning with a throw of 157-7, while in the shot put Central junior Lucas Gustin tossed it 44-11 1/2.
