XC Countdown 2022: #20 Marshwood Boys

Maine MileSplit 2022 XC Team Countdown

With the calendar switching to August soon we wanted to switch gears from the track to the trails to get ready for the upcoming cross-country season. Athletes around the state are hitting the roads and trails building up a strong base in hopes of a successful cross-country in 2022, with the hopes of lifting the state championship as a team in November the ultimate goal. Our plan is to highlight who we think are the top 25 returning girls and boys xc teams over the next three weeks. Thanks to Cheverus XC/track coach Nick Denari for volunteering his time and efforts to put this countdown together.

Sam DeGrappo is the top returner for the Hawks this fall.

2022 Outlook:

Marshwood is running without a safety net in 2022. The Hawks return 5 out of 7 from a team that placed 4th in the South Region a year ago, but beyond those five the Hawks have nearly no depth. They have a solid group of upperclassmen lead by Sam DeGrappo, then a tight pack follows behind him. Beyond that, they returners all ran well over 20 minutes last year, so Marshwood will be hurt badly by any injuries that may pop up during the season. They should hope for a top 5 finish in the conference and a State Meet berth in 2022. Any more than that is probably beyond them.
