Maine MileSplit 2022 XC Team Countdown

With the calendar switching to August soon we wanted to switch gears from the track to the trails to get ready for the upcoming cross-country season. Athletes around the state are hitting the roads and trails building up a strong base in hopes of a successful cross-country in 2022, with the hopes of lifting the state championship as a team in November the ultimate goal. Our plan is to highlight who we think are the top 25 returning girls and boys xc teams over the next three weeks. Thanks to Cheverus XC/track coach Nick Denari for volunteering his time and efforts to put this countdown together.

Thea Crowley of GSA was the Class C state runner-up last fall, she went on to place 8th in New Englands.

2022 Outlook: George Stevens Academy had a very solid year in 2021 and should be even better this year since they lose no one from that team. The Eagles only had 6 total athletes on that team and will hope to add a few more to add some depth. Even if they don't, they have a solid top 5 that will be able to get across the line before the majority of Class C teams. They also have one of the best runners in the entire state in Thea Crowley, who should score very low for GSA all season. This team appears to be a little outgunned by the top teams in Class C, but they should have a very solid season nonetheless.
