Maine MileSplit 2022 XC Team Countdown

With the calendar switching to August soon we wanted to switch gears from the track to the trails to get ready for the upcoming cross-country season. Athletes around the state are hitting the roads and trails building up a strong base in hopes of a successful cross-country in 2022, with the hopes of lifting the state championship as a team in November the ultimate goal. Our plan is to highlight who we think are the top 25 returning girls and boys xc teams over the next three weeks. Thanks to Cheverus XC/track coach Nick Denari for volunteering his time and efforts to put this countdown together.

Cameron Pernal (749) and Chris Augur (742) had great freshman years for Yarmouth, they will look to make another jump this fall.

2022 Outlook:

Yarmouth has all the attributes of a successful team in 2022: senior leadership, young talent, and a tight pack. The Clipper Ships return 5 from last year's squad that finished 6^th in Class B, and they look primed to improve upon that this year. Seniors Yeo Aksel and Joshua Leinwand will bring experience to the big meets. Running alongside them will be 3 sophomores who all ran sub 19 as freshmen last year. No other team in the state had more than 2. The Clipper Ships' pack time of 24 seconds is also amongst the very best in the state. If one or more of Yarmouth's standout sophomores improves, don't be surprised if this team is raising the Class B trophy at the end of the year.
