XC Countdown 2022: #11 Gorham Girls

Maine MileSplit 2022 XC Team Countdown

With the calendar switching to August soon we wanted to switch gears from the track to the trails to get ready for the upcoming cross-country season. Athletes around the state are hitting the roads and trails building up a strong base in hopes of a successful cross-country in 2022, with the hopes of lifting the state championship as a team in November the ultimate goal. Our plan is to highlight who we think are the top 25 returning girls and boys xc teams over the next three weeks. Thanks to Cheverus XC/track coach Nick Denari for volunteering his time and efforts to put this countdown together.

Rita Cummings is one of the top returners for the Rams this fall.

2022 Outlook: The end of Gorham's 2021 season was a mix of highs and lows. The Rams were without some top runners at the regional due to some Covid issues and narrowly snuck into the State Meet after losing a 6th runner tiebreaker to Kennebunk for 7th place. They arrived to the Class A State Championships at full strength and ran to a spectacular finish. This year's Gorham team won't be able to afford losing any runners as they only return 5 total from 2021, but they athletes they bring back are very strong. The Rams are one of only 5 teams in the state that have 3 runners that went under 21 minutes a year ago. If they can add another runner or two to the roster, the rest of the state should have to be on alert to this squad.
