How we compiled the list: All class state meets for a given year were combined, and then the teams were assigned a number based on how the finished in the combined state meet. 25 points for being the top team down to 1 point for 25th best team in any given year. The Capers of Cape Elizabeth have been the top girls xc team in the state since the year 2000. During that time period they have been the top team in the state on two occasions (2007 & 2008) while they have been the second ranked squad three other times (2005, 2006 & 2009). They have been a top five team a total of seven times over the 19 year stretch. They are ranked seventh best over the last ten years.
