XC Countdown 2022: #8 Mt. Blue Boys

Maine MileSplit 2022 XC Team Countdown

With the calendar switching to August soon we wanted to switch gears from the track to the trails to get ready for the upcoming cross-country season. Athletes around the state are hitting the roads and trails building up a strong base in hopes of a successful cross-country in 2022, with the hopes of lifting the state championship as a team in November the ultimate goal. Our plan is to highlight who we think are the top 25 returning girls and boys xc teams over the next three weeks. Thanks to Cheverus XC/track coach Nick Denari for volunteering his time and efforts to put this countdown together.

Henri McCourt will be one to watch this fall for the Cougars.

2022 Outlook:  Mt. Blue is a team that is very tough to predict in 2022. The Cougars are led by Cyrus Evans, who perhaps has the best range of any runner in the entire state, having run 11.74 for 100m, 4:39 for 1600m, 16:33 for 5K, and finishing 3rd overall in Class A in the 400m during spring 2022. Behind him are two rising sophomores who ran very fast as freshmen, so they very well might have three low sticks come the end of the season. There's a bit of a gap after that to their 4th runner, but that gap may be closed by any of a few runners, including Kodi Quimby, who had a great season in the racewalk this spring. Or maybe it could be Cowen Young, an athlete that did not run cross country in 2021 but did run 4:42 over 1600m this spring. No matter what, Mt. Blue is definitely a team to watch throughout the season.
