XC Countdown 2022: #6 Cape Elizabeth Girls

Maine MileSplit 2022 XC Team Countdown

With the calendar switching to August soon we wanted to switch gears from the track to the trails to get ready for the upcoming cross-country season. Athletes around the state are hitting the roads and trails building up a strong base in hopes of a successful cross-country in 2022, with the hopes of lifting the state championship as a team in November the ultimate goal. Our plan is to highlight who we think are the top 25 returning girls and boys xc teams over the next three weeks. Thanks to Cheverus XC/track coach Nick Denari for volunteering his time and efforts to put this countdown together.

Emma Young of Cape placed in the top 10 at Class B states last fall.

2022 Outlook: 2022 looks to be another great year for Cape Elizabeth. The Capers graduated 2 out of their top 7 from last year's team that won a regional championship and took runner-up in Class B. Hadley Mahoney will score low throughout the season and will have eyes on repeating her individual Class B Championship. Emma Young looks to close the gap to Mahoney after a great track season that saw her run 2:21 for 800m and 5:24 for 1600m. Branson and Degeorge will look to run under 21 minutes. If the Capers can find one more athlete that can join them, they will have a shot at the team title this year.
