XC Countdown 2022: #4 George Stevens Academy Boys

Maine MileSplit 2022 XC Team Countdown

With the calendar switching to August soon we wanted to switch gears from the track to the trails to get ready for the upcoming cross-country season. Athletes around the state are hitting the roads and trails building up a strong base in hopes of a successful cross-country in 2022, with the hopes of lifting the state championship as a team in November the ultimate goal. Our plan is to highlight who we think are the top 25 returning girls and boys xc teams over the next three weeks. Thanks to Cheverus XC/track coach Nick Denari for volunteering his time and efforts to put this countdown together.

Senior Ira Buchholz is one of the top returners for GSA this fall.

2022 Outlook:  It's now or never for George Stevens Academy. The Eagles bring back 6 of 7 from their Class C runner-up squad, and all of those (and their next best returner after that) are seniors. While they have no stand-out returners from last season, GSA boasts the smallest 1-5 gap in the State and they will look to use that to grab their 3rd ever cross country State title. The Eagles do have a little bit of a drop-off after their top 5 scorers, so if they deal with any injuries during the season, someone will have to step up and narrow that gap.
