XC Countdown 2022: #3 Marshwood Girls

Maine MileSplit 2022 XC Team Countdown

With the calendar switching to August soon we wanted to switch gears from the track to the trails to get ready for the upcoming cross-country season. Athletes around the state are hitting the roads and trails building up a strong base in hopes of a successful cross-country in 2022, with the hopes of lifting the state championship as a team in November the ultimate goal. Our plan is to highlight who we think are the top 25 returning girls and boys xc teams over the next three weeks. Thanks to Cheverus XC/track coach Nick Denari for volunteering his time and efforts to put this countdown together.

Addie Fuller placed 9th in the Class A state meet last fall.

2022 Outlook: If any team can compete with Bonny Eagle this year for the Class A title, it is Marshwood. They are ahead of the Scots through two runners, with Sarah McClellan as a legit individual title contender and Addie Fuller likely to finish in the single digits at any meet she runs in. Maggie Chamberlain is coming of off a great track season in which she ran 5:36 over1600m. She will look to close the gap to those top two. Add Emma Tessier and the Hawks are rock solid through four runners, but as it stands now, their two-minute gap between their 4thand 5th runners will hold them back from being a true threat to win the Class A title. If they can find a 5th runner, either from a veteran stepping up or an incoming freshman running fast, then Marshwood can beat anyone in the state.
