Maine MileSplit 2022 XC Team Countdown

With the calendar switching to August soon we wanted to switch gears from the track to the trails to get ready for the upcoming cross-country season. Athletes around the state are hitting the roads and trails building up a strong base in hopes of a successful cross-country in 2022, with the hopes of lifting the state championship as a team in November the ultimate goal. Our plan is to highlight who we think are the top 25 returning girls and boys xc teams over the next three weeks. Thanks to Cheverus XC/track coach Nick Denari for volunteering his time and efforts to put this countdown together.

Ella Joyce placed 14th in the Class B state meet helping the Trojans win the team title.

2022 Outlook: Everyone should fear Mt. Desert Island this season. The Trojans were Class B champions in 2022, and they did so in dominating fashion. This team brings back 5 of its top 7 from that team, including standout Amelia Vandongen. She ran great throughout all 3 seasons as a freshman, and the Trojans hope that experience puts her in the mix for an individual title this year. Behind her is a slew of talented athletes: each of the next 4 runners is capable of being this team's #2. Or maybe freshman Peighton Skeate will contribute. She ran 1600m in 6:10 as an 8^th grader. It's possible that we will look back at the 2022 seasons and think that MDI was the best team in Maine, regardless of Class.
