Ruth White, William Hileman Cruise to NM Regional C Titles

RESULTS

As expected junior Ruth White cruised to the Northern Maine Class C Regional title on the Troy Howard Middle School course in Belfast on Saturday. White the top ranked runner in Maine came in as the defending champion and left little doubt who was going to win as she covered the 3.1 mile layout in the fastest time of the day of the girl's side, 17:51.42. Her time would have placed her sixth in the boys race which gives you an idea of the quality of her run.

Houlton/GHCA star sophomore Teagan Ewings ran a strong race to earn the runner-up finish in a time of 19:01.90, behind her senior Thea Crowley of George Stevens Academy grabbed third place with her 19:14.85 effort. Standout freshman Maya Boyington put together one of her best races of the season as she just missing cracking the 20 minute barrier with her 20:02.54 fourth place finish. Rounding out the top five was sophomore Natalie Johnson of Houlton/GHCA in 20:32.30.


The Orono Red Riots the #3 ranked team in the state dominated the competition as they placed six runners in the top ten to leave no doubts about who was going win. Orono will be the favorite to win the Class C state title next weekend at Twin Brook in Cumberland. Houlton/GHCA was second with 51 points followed by George Stevens Academy with 90 points. Fort Kent (123 points) and Maine Central Institute (138 points) where next and advanced to the state meet.

On the boys side Bucksport junior William Hileman avenged his defeat at PVC's a week ago to Kaleb Colson of Sumner as he clocked 16:14.26 to win by 52 seconds over the aforementioned Colson. Hileman will be the individual favorite at the Class C state meet. Ethan Linscott of Lee Academy was third in 17:19.69 while Ren Salisbury of Sumner was next in 17:23.76. Sophomore Owen Beane of Orono rounded out the top five with a 17:36.45 effort.

George Stevens Academy captured the team title with 60 point as they placed all five scorers within a 47 second gap between places 8-18. Sumner was the runner-up with 82 points, with Limestone/MSSM taking third with 102 four points in front of Orono who was fourth. Rounding out the state meet qualifiers in fifth was Bucksport with 111.
