Drake's Three Wins Lead York to Class B Girls Title

The York girls came into the Class B indoor track and field championship as one of a handful of teams with a shot of brining home the team title. The Wildcats behind a three win day from junior Cary Drake had enough to fend off the competition to win the school's second indoor track title, the first since 2010.

RESULTS

Cary Drake entered the meet as the favorite to win the distance triple and the standout distance star did just that dominating each event to score thirty points for the Wildcats. Drake started her day off with a 5:19.32 win in the mile, a race which saw her teammate Molly Kenealy finish second. Drake was waiting with open arms to congratulate her teammate  after she crossed the finish line, the finish gave York 18 points. 

Drake's day continued as she set a new personal best in the 800m as she pushed the pace from the gun covering the first 400m in 66.99, clocking 2:18.03. She finished off her busy day on the track with sixteen laps in the 2 mile covering the distance in 11:35.06, good for a thirty-five second victory.

York got more points from Kenealy in the 800m with her sixth place finish, and one more point in the two mile with a eighth place effort.

The 4x800 relay team added a third place finish (11:01.19), and the 4x200 was fifth with there (1:57.76).


MCI senior Emma Burr had a strong meet scoring twenty-eight individual points. Burr won the 55m hurdles in a time of 8.88, she added a second victory in the 200m with a 26.81 effort. Emma was the runner-up in the 55m dash (7.47).


In the jumps Bucksport junior Natasha Monreal repeated as champion in the long and triple jump. In the long jump she leaped out to 17-1, and in the triple jump 34-7 1/4.

Bangor Christian senior Veronica Mercier moved up from the second seed to win the 55m dash (7.45) in a personal best. Senior Emma Brown of Cony notched a personal best as she matched her top seed to win the 400m (62.08). Another top seed Freeport's Avery Baker-Schlendering soared over 5-4 to win the high jump. In the pole vault Sarah Ouellette of Morse matched her personal best of 10-6 to win the event while in the shot put Dez Seeley of Orono took top honors with a throw of 33-3 3/4.

In the relays Lincoln Academy took first in the 4x800 (10:48.83) while Bucksport won the 4x200m in 1:52.23.
