The KVAC cross-country championship will take place at Messalonskee High School on Saturday. The meet was previously scheduled to take place at Cony High School as it traditionally has in the past but the course suffered damage this fall, and it couldn't be taken care of in time, so in stepped Messalonskee.
While the girls will all race together they will be scored separately based on Class. In the Class A girls' race, Jenna VanRyn a senior from Camden Hills is the top seed, she has a best of 19:28.28 this fall and currently ranks sixth in Class A. The Class B girls' are led by statewide #8 runner Shealyn Brochu of Morse. Brochu in her first cross-country season has excelled and is also the #2 ranked Class B this fall.
Camden Hills is the top-ranked girls team in the meet. The Windjammers are ranked #3 in the state and are the favorites in the Class A race. In the Class B race, Lincoln Academy is the heavy favorite, they enter the meet ranked sixth statewide, and are the second-ranked B team in the state.
On the boys' side, Brunswick senior Ben Klingle is the #7 in the state, he'll be pushed by another senior Harrison Shain of Hampden Academy who ranks #10. Watch for Enzo Giampaolo (Lewiston) and Asher Valentine (Hampden Academy) to be in the mix as well. Gabe Durazo of Leavitt is the top Class B runner in the meet, he could be pushed by Lincoln Academy's Eliot O'Mahoney and Levi Riggs of Morse.
