The Red Storm of Scarborough finished what they couldn't do a year ago as they stopped Bangor's three-year winning streak and tallied 63.50 points to win the Class A title.

Scarborough was led by sophomore distance runner Laurel Driscoll who racked up 20 individual points to pace the Red Storm. Driscoll was the runner-up in the mile (5:06.44) and a pair of third-place efforts in the 800 and 2 mile. Senior Kyleigh Record was the 800m runner-up and was fourth in the mile, while Bailey Stoddard-Baughman added a third-place finish in the 55m hurdles and a fourth-place effort in the triple jump. The Red Storm got a surprise fourth place from junior Maiya Marquis in the shot put as she moved up from the 10th seed with her personal best throw of 31-2 1/2 while sophomore Isabella Harmon placed third in the pole vault (9-0) and fifth in the high jump (5-0).

Lewiston senior Makenna Drouin won three events. Drouin broke the Class A state meet record in the 55m twice, running 7.11 in the trials and lowering it to 7.08 in the finals. The time broke the two-year-old record of 7.16 set by Bangor's Anna Connors. It is the second-best in state history only behind the great Kate Hall. Drouin won the 55m hurdles in 8.41 the fourth fastest time in state history, and then came back for her third win of the day in the 200m in a time of 26.04.

Updated State Meet Records

Portland's Samantha Moore won the mile (5:05.45) and the 800m (2:23.69) plus added a fourth place in the 2 mile (11:45.88) after being sick most of the week. Sophomore Margaret Tripp of Thornton Academy won the 2 mile in a time of 11:18.52.

In the shot put Falmouth senior Ruby Prentiss extended her state lead with her winning throw of 38-8 1/2. Lydia White of Mt Ararat cleared ten feet to win the pole vault, while junior Lisi Palmer of Brunswick cleared 5-2 to win the high jump title for the second year in a row.

Over at the jump pit, Julia Pendleton of Bonny Eagle leaped 17-1 1/2 to win the long jump after she battled a back injury that almost kept her out of the meet. In the triple jump, top seed Lauren Vanidestine of Brewer left little doubt after her opening jump of 36-1 ended up being more than two feet further than the runner-up distance.

Deering senior Lara Gin dominated the 400m dash as she won in a time of 60.11, her winning margin was over 2 seconds.

In the relays, Falmouth set a new state-leading mark as they cruised to a 16-second margin of victory as the Navigators clocked 9:56.49. In the final track event the 4x200, Bangor stopped the clocked at 1:49.95 as the Rams matched their number one seed, and clinched the runner-up trophy with the effort.
