Bonny Eagle senior Rowan McDonald won the 3000-meter racewalk national title at the Nike Outdoor National meet in Oregon on Friday morning. McDonald added his fourth national title to his impressive resume with the win as he clocked 15:24.27 covering the final lap in 1:40..76 to pull away from the runner-up sophomore Ian Britt of Mt. Ararat. Britt finished at 15:31.65, while Mt. Abram senior Carter Butterfield was third at 17:36.03. ON Thursday McDonald finished as the runner-up in the 10,000-meter U20 race with a personal best of 49:56.97 effort, Britt was fourth in 55:14.31, while Butterfield placed fifth in 55:53.45.
The successful weekend for McDonald continued after flying from Oregon to Philadelphia on Friday night and arriving in Pennslyvania at three in the morning. He toed the line to defend his 1-mile championship just after 10 am on Saturday. At the bell, McDonald held a slight lead but saved plenty as he crushed the final lap in 1:43.64 to secure his second consecutive New Balance title in 7:04.14. Hans Bakke of York earned All-American honors with his third-place effort of 7:18.12, while Roan Donaghy of Lincoln Academy was fourth at 7:22.15. Phineas Scherrer of Leavitt finished 8th overall (7:39.80), John Heffernan of South Portland was 10th (7:50.53) while Alexandy Pierre of South Portland was 13th (8:22.64), Ryan Morin and Bryce Upton of Noble placed 14th (8:31.26) and 15th (8:31.69).
The Brunswick girl's sprint medley team of Maddie Chaput, Ellie Musica, Lisi Palmer, and Maeve Woodruff placed 14th in the championship race as they clocked a new state record of 4:18.66. Chaput got the Dragons off to a strong with a 27.23 opening 200m, Muscia ran a solid second leg with a 26.52 followed by a 62.94 carry by Palmer on the 400m leg before Woodruff anchored the team home with a 2:21.98. The team surpassed the twenty-four-year-old record held by Gorham of 4:20.81. Brunswick placed 12th in the Emerging Elite 4x100m relay with a 51.23 effort.
Class A high jump champion Lisi Palmer of Brunswick earned All-American honors with her personal best clearance of 5-7 1/4. Palmer cleared the first two heights on her first attempt before making 5-5 1/4 on her second attempt before making 5-7 1/4 on her third attempt. The mark is equal to the fourth-best jump in state history and also ties the Dragons school record in the event.
Class A pole vault champion Bryce Holden of Mt Ararat cleared a personal best 14-0 1/2 to place 12th in the Emerging Elite division.
Westbrook senior Gavin Landry clocked 57.44 in the Emerging Elite 400m hurdles to place 20th. Ben Therriault of Mt. Ararat finished 25th with a 58.12 effort.
Bonny Eagle freshman Drew Gervais had a strong showing in the freshman 100m dash race as he clocked a personal best of 11.20 in the preliminary races to place 11th overall. His time ranks him fifth best among Maine freshman all-time. Gervais teamed with Connor Johnson, Emmett St. Pierre, and Colby Cooper to run 43.83 in the prelims, the team finished second overall to qualify for the final. Mt Ararat also made the final as they placed 8th in a time of 44.35. In the final Mt Ararat finished 7th (44.93) while Bonny Eagle didn't finish.
In the Emerging Elite 4x400, Mt Ararat clocked 3:28.93 to place tenth, while Bonny Eagle finished 15th in 3:31.68.
In the boy's Emerging Elite Sprint Medley, the Bonny Eagle boys finished third overall with a 3:41.64 effort. A second relay team for the Scots ran 3:47 to finish tenth, while the Mt Ararat Eagles placed sixth clocking a time of 3:44.99
Competing in the 100m Emerging Elite hurdles was Scarborough senior Bailey Stoddard-Baugham Scarborough who ran 16.28 to finish 42nd. Ellie Muscia ran 13.31 in the freshman 100m prelims to set a new personal best, she finished 36th overall.

Over at Franklin Field in Philadelphia at New Balance Outdoor seventh grader Nora Schmidt is a name you will want to remember in the years to come, Schmidt who attends Lincoln Middle School in Portland finished 22nd in the middle school mile clocking 5:16.67, she came back on Friday to run an 11:17.10 in the 2 mile to place ninth overall.
Scarborough sophomore Laurel Driscoll won section one of the championship mile in a new personal best of 4:52.86. Driscoll ran splits of 71.02, 75.83, 75.08, and 70.92 as she pulled away in the final lap to secure the second-fastest mile in state history. Her time placed her 38th in the championship section.
In the boy's mile Class A state champion Maddox Jordan of Noble clocked a seasonal best of 4:11.60 to finish 25th overall. Jordan recorded splits of 62.77, 65.50, 64.10, & 59.26 as he placed fourth in section five of the championship race. The mark converts to 4:10.14 for 1600m which is a new personal best and ranks fifth best in state history.
Class A shot put and discus champion Ryker Paradis placed 41st in the championship shot put with a best effort of 53-5 1/2, while in the discus he finished 28th with a 169-7 effort.
Arnaud Sioho of South Portland the Class A triple jump champion placed 20th with a leap of 46-2. Class C high jump champion Sarah Moore of NYA cleared a seasonal best 5-5 1/4 to finish ninth in the high jump.
In the freshman boy's mile Scarborough standout, Atticus Merriam ran a personal best of 4:30.32 to place 23rd, he clocked 9:53.91 in the 2 mile on Friday to finish 31st overall.
The Portland boys 4x1 mile relay team of Benjamin Prestes, Aran Johnson, Charlie Jacques, and Nathan Blades ran 18:01.11 to place in section one, and 22nd overall. This is believed to be a new state all-time best in the event for the Bulldogs.
New England 100m champion Andre Clark of Marshwood placed third in his heat of the 100m running 10.69 into a -1.0 wind, and just missed making the semi-finals by .03.
Greely freshman Victoria Zandan had a strong run in the freshman 400m hurdles as she clocked 67.86 to win section one, she placed 15th overall. She also finished 35th in the freshman long jump with a best jump of 16-1 1/2. Zandan competed in the freshman 100m hurdles on Saturday, she finished 22nd in a time of 15.94, she also placed 19th in the freshman triple jump with a best jump of 34-6 3/4.
Lucy Veilleux of Old Town jumped 16-11 1/2 in the freshman long jump to finish in 21st place.

At the adidas meet in Greensboro, North Carolina Class A 100m hurdle champion Makenna Drouin of Lewiston ran 15.36 in the national elite prelims to place 28th, Tayla Pelletier of Windham ran 15.51 to finish 34th. Drouin also competed in the 100m prelims, she clocked 12.28 to finish 20th.
Emerson Flaker the Class A 400m champion finished ninth in the championship race as she ran 56.18. Flaker finished fourth in section three.
Lewiston sophomore Cameron Harris ran 51.20 to finish 53rd in the National Elite 400m race. In the National Elite sho put Ian Randall of Bangor placed 15ht with a best throw of 49-4
