2024 Outlook
Portland reached the pinnacle last fall winning the Class A state title. While the Bulldogs graduated several key contributors they have the talent and depth to repeat this fall. Early season results show that Portland isn't going anywhere and with the addition of some key freshmen expect them to get better throughout the season. Senior Aran Johnson improved on the track last spring and that has carried over to the XC season. Portland will be one of the top teams in the state this fall and is certainly in contention to repeat as state champs come November.
Coach Frank Myatt Comments:
We had a good turnout for our summer practices for both teams, and I was especially impressed with the number of incoming freshmen who were able to get a jump-start on their training. Boys: It's definitely a different feel than last year, where we had the pressure of being one of the favorites going into the season, but we should still be strong this year. I'm impressed by how this group has carried the momentum of successful seasons on the track into their cross-country training, and we hope to be at our best in the postseason. Sam Harrod-Kim (1000 )and Everett Smith (mile) were conference champs while running for King last indoor season.
