Portsmouth, Rhode Island junior Sean Gray had his eyes set on the course record during his pre-meet job of the course on Friday afternoon. On Saturday Gray delivered the best performance in the twenty-four years of the Maine XC Festival of Champions with an astounding winning effort of 14:55.56 to break the meet and course record of 15:06 set back in 2013 by Telstar's Josef-Holt Andrews
Sam Laverdiere a senior from Lake Region was the top Maine finisher with his 15:39.11, he was followed by Portland senior Aran Johnson who clocked a personal best of 15:47.96 for third. Next was Deering junior Ellis Wood at 15:49.51, and Henri Rivard a junior from Marshwood rounded out the top five and those who ran under 16 minutes with his 15:59.20 effort.
The team race was close as number-one-ranked Portland edged second-ranked Scarborough 98-110. Portsmouth, Rhode Island was third.
