Scarborough Boys Back On Top In Class A

Scarborough built a lead that Lewiston couldn't overcome in the final event the triple jump as the Red Storm held on for a 72-68 win over the Blue Devils. It was the eighth title in the last nine years for Scarborough.

Scarborough was paced by their distance runners as they accounted for 49 points. Senior Ethan Keller led a 1-2 finish in the mile with sophomore Atticus Merriam, while in the 800m seniors Baxter Merriam and Landen Springer finished in third and fourth place for the Red Storm. Atticus and Keller returned in the two mile where they placed third and fourth along with Baxter Merriam scoring an eighth place. The 4x800 relay finished second as well for Scarborough. In the pole vault, senior Wyatt Martin cleared 15-0 to capture first, a year ago Martin tore his ACL in the 55m hurdle prelims and wasn't able to compete in the vault. In the 55m hurdles, senior Ryan Marshall ran a personal best of 8.04 to finish second improving on his fourth-place seed.

Lewiston got wins from senior Josia Katroli in the high jump (6-8) and junior Cameron Harris in the 400m (52.67). Katroli teamed with Harris in the 4x200 as the Blue Devils secured second place with a seasonal best of 1:34.26. Junior Fernando Kele was second in the triple jump (43-9 1/4) and third in the long jump (21-6 3/4).

South Portland's Arnaud Sioho was a double winner as he won the long jump (22-11 1/4) and triple jump (48-6 1/4). The triple jump mark improved on Sioho's previous state meet record set a year ago.

Falmouth's Max Shapiro pulled the upset in the 55m dash as he outleaned defending champion and state meet record holder Andre Clark of Marhswood 6.41 to 6.42 to capture the title. The loss was the first for Clark in the state of Maine since his sophomore season. The time places Shapiro as the second fastest in state history in the event, and the time equals the senior class record also held by Clark. Clark returned the favor in the 200m as he stormed back over the final 20m to take the victory in 22.72 to 22.77 over Shapiro.

Isaiah Perodin of Marshwood won the 55m hurdles (7.84), and Harrison Dunne of Bonny Eagle took the 800m (2:00.24), while Deering junior Ellis Wood ran away with the 2-mile (9:33.78).

Brunswick won the 4x200m relay in a state-leading 1:33.33
