The 2025 edition of the Marathon Sports Elite Invitational delivered a day packed with electrifying performances. With athletes competing under cloudy skies and occasional drizzle, several standout performances hinted at big things to come as the championship season approaches.
Sprints Showcase: Clark and Gervais Dominate
Andre Clark of Marshwood High School proved himself the state's premier sprinter, doubling up impressively. Clark captured the 100m dash in a blazing 10.72 seconds, then returned to dominate the 200m in 21.57 seconds, both wins coming against tough competition from Drew Gervais of Bonny Eagle, who finished second in both races (10.84 and 21.91, respectively). The 200m time broke the Maine all-time best in the event of 21.67 previously held by Miles Burr of MDI back in 2023. Gervais also shattered the year-old sophomore record of 22.11 (Mason Henderson of Leavitt); his mark is the third-best in state history.
In the 400m, Ali Carter from Falmouth edged the field with a smooth 48.98, holding off a strong challenge from Greely's Owen Partridge (49.28). Both times set respective Class A and B leading times for 2025. Carter's time was equal to the eighth-fastest performance in outdoor state history in the event, and he narrowly took down the Falmouth High School record.
Bariteau Blazes the Sprint Double
Fryeburg Academy sophomore Avery Bariteau dominated the sprint scene with impressive victories in both the 100m (12.68) and 200m (26.41) dashes. Her combination of top-end speed and strong finishes made her untouchable on the day. In both races, she held off talented challengers, including Miah Jacobs (Yarmouth) and Emma Graham (Freeport)
Middle-Distance Magic: Laverdiere Goes 2-for-2
Sam Laverdiere of Lake Region was a star in the distance events, capturing both the 800m (1:57.18) and the 1600m (4:18.34) with commanding finishes. In the mile, Laverdiere took over the lead after 400m and pushed the pace in the middle two laps before holding off a strong finish from Ethan Keller of Scarborough (4:19.83) and Aran Johnson of Portland (4:21.19). In the 800m, Laverdiere followed Henri Rivard of Marshwood for 500m before moving into the lead and lowering his personal best by over two seconds. Rivard fought back over the last 100m to finish in 1:57
In the 3200m, Tim Collins of Hampden Academy held off Evan Small of South Portland to win in 9:46.08, as he battled Small over the final lap before pulling away with just over 200m left in the race.
Brochu Leads Impressive Distance Races
The longer races brought strong competition and swift times. Shealyn Brochu (Morse '25) took control of the 1600m from the beginning and never let up, winning in 4:53.44, with Rowan Barry (Greely) 4:58.87 securing a runner-up finish. Brochu's time is the fourth-best in state history. Barry followed up with an impressive second-place finish in the 3200m (11:05.04), where she trailed Margaret Tripp (Thornton Academy, 11:00.53). Tripp pulled away with a blazing last lap of 76.39.
Lucy Huggett (Freeport '26) powered through the 800m in 2:20.53, fending off strong efforts from Sabrina Ocampo (Scarborough) and Sara Tennent (Falmouth).
Hurdles: Rory Good Sweeps
Rory Good of Windham turned in a spectacular double, winning the 110m hurdles (15.61) and backing it up in the 300m hurdles (40.69).
Pelletier Claims Triple Gold in Hurdles & Jumps
No athlete scored more decisively than Tayla Pelletier (Windham '25), who swept the 100m Hurdles (15.12) and 300m Hurdles (46.33), setting state-leading marks in both events. Pelletier also secured first place in the Triple Jump with 37-11, the best mark in the state this season. Lewiston's Jenni Flynn followed closely in both hurdle races, finishing 2nd in each.
Field Event Stars Shine Bright
The field events were headlined by Ryker Paradis (Lewiston), who put on a clinic in the throws, winning both the Shot Put (59-9) and Discus (183-10), and placing third in the Javelin (151-1)-the most decorated individual of the meet. His shot and discus marks both rank among the best in New England this year.
In the Javelin, George Klatsky (Falmouth) captured first with a 169-10 toss, while Jacob Feith (Winthrop) secured second with a strong 160-0 mark.
Power in the Throws

In the Long Jump, Olivea Miller (Leavitt) narrowly edged Alisandra Lindos (Portland) with a leap of 15-11.25.
Relays: Portland's Power
Portland High School ruled the relays, taking both the 4x100 (43.94) and 4x400 (3:28.87) titles. Their sprint relay squads were unmatched on the day, while Bonny Eagle, Thornton Academy, and South Portland all posted solid times across the board. The 4x400 time set a new state-leading mark for the Bulldogs.
Scarborough's 4x100m squad flew to gold in 52.58, narrowly holding off Winthrop and South Portland. Portland won the 4x400m (4:15.95) with a strong anchor leg of 59.68 as they pulled away from Windham and Morse.
