Maine Highlights at NE's

Cheverus Boys 4x800 (Jack Terwilliger, Taylor Dundas, Tim Woods, Andrew Snyder) 2nd 8:02.33. The time is a new indoor school record, and the #2 time in state history. Taylor Dundas led off for the stags, coming through in 2:00.4, which had Cheverus in 2nd place. Terwilliger (2:04.5) had the stick next, and maintained contact with the lead group after getting passed on the first lap. Tim Woods (1:59.1) got to the back of the lead pack after a lap and maintained until opening up in the last 100 to pass the stick to anchor leg Andrew Snyder (1:58.1) in 3rd place. Snyder dropped back into the 4th position but was biding his time. With about 150m to go Snyder started his surge by 2nd and 3rd place but was unable to match the finishing speed of Hamden, CT anchor leg Chris FitzSimons (US#2 for 1k)

Bonny Eagle Girls 4x200 breaks all-time Maine best 1:48.64. Running in the 3rd fastest heat was what the Scots needed to break the All-time Maine HS indoor record. Behind leadoff leg Morgan Costa, Alexandria O'Brien, Peyton Dostie & Melissa Carrier, the Scots raced to a 2nd place finish in their heat and a blazing 1:48.64 to improve on their time from the state meet.

Will Geoghegan wins Mile 4:14.94 over Mark McCauley 4:15.43. The mile was dominated by two mainers, Dartmouth bound senior, and Class A mile Champ Will Geoghegan (Brunswick) employed a slightly different strategy than he did at the state meet, as he came through the mile in 2:11+ (66,65) sitting in the middle of the pack, at the state meet he was out in 61 and 2:06.5 at the half. Columbia bound senior, and Class B mile Champ Mark McCauley (Greely) was content to stay in the back of the pack until the 800m mark when he put in a big surge to the front. The race was on from their as McCauley started pushing the 3rd quarter, the 400m in a mile the pace sometimes lags, but that wasn't the case, as the next 400m was clocked off in 64 seconds. Geoghegan had moved up into 3rd behind Chris Allen (CT), while McCauley still led, with 400m to go the duo increased the pace, and by the bell it was a two man race. McCauley had the lead and was in full stride, while Geoghegan wasn't giving ground. the two hit the back stretch, McCauley was almost in lane 2 and that was the opening Geoghgean needed as he snuck by on the inside and powered home to the finish. Both athletes set lifetime bests, Geoghegan won in 4:14.94 while McCauley broke 4:20 for the first time clocking 4:15.32. The last 800m for the duo was covered in 2:03+.  RACE VIDEO via FlOTRACK

Imadhi Zagon (Portland) 3rd in LJ 22-2. Imadhi had his best jumping day of the season, taking the lead heading into the finals with a 22-1 jump on his 2nd attempt of the trials. He would improve 1 inch in the final, but two others jumpers moved ahead of Zagon in the finals. Still 3rd place in NE's as a junior bodes well for his chances at the top of the podium in 2011

Patrick Ciez (Windham) 5th in HJ 6-5.

Caroline Summa (Cheverus) 5th in HJ 5-3

Faisal Abillahi (Lewiston) 6th in 1000m 2:32.89  RACE VIDEO

Liam Cassidy (Brunswick) 3rd in 2mile 9:23.79 Liam had a great race, staying comfortably in the lead pack towards the back end for the first mile-4:44, Cassidy surged up to the top 3 as they crossed the mile marker. Chris Bendtsen (Wolcott, CT), eventual winner was racheting up the pace each lap. after that, and it appeared Cassidy was in some danger of falling off the pace, but he didn't panick, just increaded his tempo gradually and maintained contact. With 600m to go he continued to work his way back to the front, and with 400m to go put himself in a medal position. Liam hung tough during the final sprint coming up the home stretch in 3rd, and finishing 4th, in a blazing 9:23.79, one of the top times ever by a Maine HS athlete indoors. After a DQ, Cassidy would end up 3rd, and looking forward to next week's 2 mile at NSIC, hoping that he would be able to use his new pr time as a seed.  Cassidy closed the last mile in 4:39.  RACE VIDEO
