Portland enjoyed a strong season last fall, finishing as the runner-up at both the Class A Regional and State Championships. While individual state champion Samantha Moore has graduated and moved on to the University of Connecticut, the Bulldogs still bring back plenty of talent. Four runners return from last year's state meet squad, including six athletes who broke the 22-minute barrier. Leading the way is Kate Morrison, the top returning state meet finisher after placing 18th. The Bulldogs also gain a major addition in freshman Nora Schmidt, who has the talent to contend for the individual title after an impressive middle school career. Portland has the pieces to challenge again, though defending champion Falmouth remains the team to beat with its proven front-end strength.
