Using each athlete's fastest 5k time from the 2025 season, we took a look at the top returning girls' cross country teams statewide heading into 2026. Mt. Desert Island, the 2024 Class B champion and 2025 runner-up, returns the most depth and talent, making the Trojans early favorites for next fall. Falmouth, which narrowly missed repeating as Class A champions, ranks second among returning squads, while Hampden Academy and 2025 Class A champion Portland are close behind and poised to challenge.
