Leonardi is just a sophomore but her accomplishments are already many. Earlier in the season she captured the All-time state best in the 3200m at a SMAA Regular season meet clocking 10:36.4. The old record was held by former Old Town star Cassie Hintz (10:39.43) set back in 2004. Abbey is no stranger to setting records, last spring as a freshman she broke the 1600m record at the New England championship meet 4:54.14. The next record is her sights is the only distance record that doesn't have her name next to it, the 800m. The record 2:15.13 is held by former Scarborough & now Middlebury College All-American Kaitlynn Saldanha, Leonardi recorded a 2:18.1 in her first attempt the distance this week. Just last night Leonardi ran unattached at the New Balance Boston Twilight meet, she set a new state record for 3k-9:47.64, which is a superior time to her previous 3200m set two weeks ago. The season is still young, and with the championship meets coming up, look for Leonardi to continue to rewrite the distance running records. Abbey has the top times in Maine this spring at 800-2:18.1, 1600m 5:11.6, & 3200m 10:36.4

Greely senior and Columbia bound senior Mark McCauley has established himself as the top 800m in Maine State history. During the indoor season McCauley clocked 1:54.16 to break the All-time state record. In his first attempt at the distance outdoors, Mark smashed the outdoor All-time state best clocking a 1:53.4. The former record was held by Mt. View's Joe Moody (1:53.8) set way back in 1995 at the Class B state meet. How much faster can run? considering that he negative split his latest race 57-56.4, the potential seems to be there to go faster. Currently this season Mark has the top 1600m-4:23 & 800m 1:53.4 in the state, while 3200m 9:41.3 is the fastest in Class B.

Keila Grigware was new to track and field last spring as a sophomore, but that didn't stop her from having an immediate impact. Grigware had her breakthrough at the Class A state championship meet last spring throwin 122-1 to win the title, the following week at the New England Championship she did the unthinkable, chucking the javelin out to a new All-time Maine best 137-10, and in the process won the New England title. With a year of experience under her belt, Grigware surpassed her All-time best throw last week, setting a new personal best 139-7. The throw ranks her 28th in the country and qualified her for the USATF junior national championships. With the weather finally warming up the Javelin should be flying even further for Keila, how many times will she re-write the record book? In addition to the Javelin, Grigware is throwing the Shot very well this spring recording a best of 35-5, which currently ranks her 3rd in Class A.
