The MVC Championship meet will be held Saturday at the University of Maine at Augusta. The Boys team race should be a good match-up between the defending Class C state champions & MVC Champions looking for a repeat, while they will face a stiff challenge from Monmouth Academy. At the beginning of the season the two team squared off with Boothbay earning a 2 point win, expect a close battle between the two squads on Saturday. The Individual race for boys will be a focus of many eyes this weekend, as two of the top Maine HS XC runners will square off again, Matt McClintock (Madison pictured left) & Chase Brown (Boothbay). McClintock is undefeated on the season, running 16:06 at the Festival of Champions a couple of weeks ago, he comes into the race as the favorite. Brown, has been inching closer to McClintock, at the Festival of Champions he was just 6 seconds back, clocking 16:12. The two will square off against each other the next three weekends. Telstar freshman Josef Holt-Andrews is another harrier to keep an eye on, he's had a strong freshman campaign, running 17:17 at Festival of Champions.
On the girls side, St Dom's & Winthrop are expected to be the top teams based on 2010 results. Winthrop got the best of St. Dom's back in early September, but where missing their #2 runner. This should be a very close competition for the title as the teams are pretty even coming in. Individually, freshman Sophia Thayer (Boothbay) is the favorite, Thayer has had a great first year, highlighted to date by her 31st place finish at the Festival of Champions where she clocked 21:04. Also look for Lisbon's Meagan Thomas, who has several win in the MVC regular season and was the runner-up last fall, her best time coming in was 21:34 at the Festival of Champions & Anna Doyle (Winthrop) who placed 3rd in the meet last fall, and has a 21:41 5k best this year.
