The KVAC Championship meet will take place at 11am Saturday at Cony HS in Augusta. While the boys from Class A & Class B schools run in the same race, they will be scored as if running in two seperate races, so a total of four individual champions as well as four conference titles will be awarded. The meet features some of the top teams in Maine, on the girls side #3 ranked Mt. Ararat Eagles & #10 Mt. Blue Cougars will match-up with a solid Brunswick team in the mix. The girls team title in Class B should be a three way tussle with Medomak Valley, Hampden Academy & Winslow all in the mix. While on the boys side #8 Mt Ararat is the favorite in the Class A meet, with #10 Edward Little expected to be right there along with #11 Mt. Blue. #12 Hampden Academy is the boys favorite in the Class B race.
Class A Girls
Mt. Ararat comes in the favorite, the Eagles have top notch talent and depth this season,. Last year they won the title, so they'll be looking to make it two in a row. They are coming off a strong performance at the Mt. Blue Relays where they shattered the course record by over 2 minutes. Mt Blue & Brunswick are other teams with a shot in Class A. Mt. Blue is ranked #10 in the latest poll, while Brunswick dropped out this past week. The Dragons have gotten the best of Mt. Blue twice this season, can they do it again?
Katie McMahon (Brunswick pictured left), a junior, is the heavy favorite in the Class A girls race, McMahon has clocked several times under 19:30 this year for 5k, her best time this fall is 19:18. McMahon has several wins under her belt this fall, and it'll take a great race for someone to challenge her. The individual race behind McMahon should be a good one with Emma Wood , Katie Spies, Emilia McGrath(Mt. A), Teresa Murphy (Brunswick), Meaghan Collier (Messalonskee), Gwen Beacham & Addie Cullenberg (Mt. Blue) & Abby Hart (EL) all having strong 2010 seasons,
Class B Girls
The team title is up for grabs in the Class B race, with three teams with a legitimate shot at earning
thecrown. Defending champion Medomak Valley is in the mix once again, along with Hampden Academy & Winslow. Winslow edged out Medomak back on 9/24 by 5 points, and scored a 24 win over Hampden at the Festival of Champions, so they may be a slight favorite to capture the Class B title, either way it'll be aclose race that could be decided by a few mere seconds.
Like the Class A individual race, there is a heavy favorite with Maranacook's Abby Mace (pictured right-photo by Dave Flewelling) looking for her 3rd straight KVAC Class B title, Mace has had a strong 2010 season to date, clocking in the low 19's and breaking 19 on two occasions. The race for 2nd should be a good one between freshman Brittany Bowman (Camden Hills), who has had a great freshman year. Bowman is coming off a win at the Camden Hills Invite, her best time of the season 20:01 clocked at the Festival of Champions. Molly Schassberger (Winslow) will be right there as well, her best time on the year was 20:05 clocking at the Festival of Chmapions
Class A Boys
With three ranked boys team in the race, this should be an exciting one to watch. #8 Mt. Ararat is the top ranked team in the field, they are coming off a win at the Mt. Blue Relays. They have beaten Mt. Blue in the regular season as well, and appear to be hitting on all cylinders. In early October #10 Edward little scored a 4 point victory over Ararat, so they have the talent to get it done again. EL has been dealing with some health issues over the past couple of weeks, hopefully those are behind them this weekend. Don't forget about the #11 Mt. Blue Cougars, they scored a win over EL at the Festival of Champions, They have a strong squad led by the Jones brothers, Jaron & Jonah.
The individual race should be highly contested as well. Top Individuals are expected to be Andy Reifman-Packett (Mt. Ararat) who has had a great junior season, he is coming off a strong run at the Mt. Blue Relays, where he clocked the #2 time, at Mt. Blue he tied for the #2 time with Harlow Ladd (Messalonskee pictured left). Ladd has been outstanding in 2010, he was the runner-up at the Festival of Champions, running 16:11, the top Class A runner. Ladd also clocked 16:08 on his home course earlier in the year, in that race he was pushed every step of the way by Faisal Noor (EL). Noor is another runner who will be looking for individual glory.
Class B Boys

running well in 2010, they are coming off a win at the Pendale Invite and at the Festival of Champions placed 10th, right behind Class A Mt. Blue & in front of Class Edward Little. If anyone is going to challenge Hampden it'll be the Winslow Black Raiders. Winslow has had a strong year, with one of their best efforts coming at Mt. Ararat where they finished just 12 points behind the Eagles, and tied with Cony. They lack a true front runner, but there pack is close together.
The Individual race should be close with three harriers, Eben Hodgkins (Erskine pictured right), Evan Piccirrillo(Hampden) & Jeff Hale (Waterville). Hodgkins has had a strong season, his latest win came on his home course where he clocked 16:32 for 5k. Look for Piccirrillo to be a strong challenger, he ran 16:56 at the Festival of Champions, and last week ran away with the Pendale Invite. Jeff Hale is another one to keep an eye on, lats time out he was just 7 seconds behind Harlow Ladd @ Skowhegan, while he finished ahead of Jaron Jones (Mt. B) & Hussein Mohamed (EL) @ Messalonskee, where he posted a lifetime best 16:57 for 5k.
