The PVC Championship meet will be meet held on Saturday 10/16 @ Saxl Park in Bangor. The Saxl Park course is 3 miles, girls course record is held by Cassie Hintz (OT) 17:30 & the boys is held by Gabe Stewart (JB) 16:04.6 The action will kick off Noon, with the Boys JV race. There will be 4 team champions crowned on the day with the Large Schools (Class B) & Small Schools (Class C) for each gender.
Large School Girls
The heavy favorite for the team championship in the Large Schools girls race is the #3 ranked John Bapst Crusaders. the Crusaders have been one of the top teams in the state in 2010. Bapst has strong front runners led by Adrienne Carmack, along with a strong supporting cast. John Bapst has only lost once, and that was to top ranked Cheverus at the Festival of Champions, they remain undefeated against PVC & Class B teams on the season. The battle for 2nd place should be a close one with Ellsworth, MDI & Caribou all in the mix. Ellsworth got a big boost last week with the return of Brianne Dunn. The Eagles won the Hancock County meet over MDI 28-33.
Old Town's Dacie Manion is the individual favorite. Manion is coming off a win at the Pendale Invite last week, and was the 5th overall finisher at the FOC, clocking a seasonal best 19:19 for 5k. Dacie is the defending champion, she'll be looking for a repeat. The race for 2nd should be a good one with Adrienne Carmack (JB), Aleeta Looker (Ellsworth) & Alecia Palmer (PI) all in the mix.
Small School Girls
With only 4 teams having 5 scoring runners this fall, the team title should be close between three teams Lee Academy, Orono & Bucksport. Orono defeated Lee Academy at the Wolverine Invite by 6 points on 10/5, so they have some momentum heading into this weekend's meet. Bucksport is another team to watch out for, they took down Orono early in the season, and edged they again at the Festival of Champions. This race is wide open.
Individually Chelsie Oldfield (Foxcroft Acad) is the pre-race favorite her best 5k on the season was the FOC, where she 20:58. Oldfield's time is 1:25 faster than anyone else in the race so more than likely she'll be on her own right from the start. Look for Rowan Wilson (Orono) & Sina Fehr (Bucksport) to be in the running for a top 3 finish.
Large School Boys
#3 ranked Caribou is the overwhelming favorite to capture the Large School Boys team race, the Vikings are coming off a fine performance at the Festival of Champions that saw them place 4th overall. Look for Caribou to win another conference title. Perennial power Ellsworth looks to be the next best team in the Large Schools race.
The Individual race should be a good one with freshman sensation Dan Curts (Ellsworth) the early favorite, Curts missed his meet last week with a small knee injury but is ready to go this weekend. Curts has been outstanding in 2010, winning the freshman 2 mile race at the Manchester Invitational as well as a 16:46 clocking at the Festival of Champions. Look for Caribou senior Christian Sleeper to be right there as well, Sleeper ran 16:54 at the FOC. Celeb Chapman (Caribou) is another runner to watch for it the lead pack.
Small School Boys
Bangor Christian Patriots come in the heavy favorites in 2010, last year they squeaked out the win on the 6th man tie breaker over Orono. They have 4 of the top 10 individuals based on performances this year for the small school teams. Sumner & Lee Academy should be two teams battling it out for 2nd place.
Individually Matt Guiod (Mattanawcook) is the race favorite, he is coming off a 2nd place finish at the Pendale Invite where he clocked 17:22. Matt also had a strong finish at FOC, placing 28th overall. Other to watch for are Taylor Lee (Sumner) , Brad Wilcox & Dylan Merchant (Bangor Christian).
