Event Spotlight
GIRLS
The team title should be a tight race throughout with Waterville and Greely the teams most likely to challenge for the to spot. Old Town has an outside shot of a podiun finish too. The Purple Panthers are the best team on the track where they are seeded to score 61 points. Greely on other hand is seeded to score 35 points in the field. Old Town will rely on it's sprinters and strong field events. Should be a very competitive meet, with several outstanding performances.
Relays
4x800 This will be a very good event to start the meet off with as the top 5 teams are seperated by just 10 seconds. Greely is the top seed with a seasonal best 10:29.9 with the John Bapst's Crusaders right off their heels seeded at 10:31.8. Waterville who is the pre-meet favorite has the 3rd seed, and could run distance standout Bethanie Brown. Cape Elizabeth is the 4th seed led by Rachel Nichols. While the 5th seed Ellsworth is the defending champion.
4x200 If the meet is anything like last year it could come down to the 4x200, 3 of the top teams expected to close Old Town, Waterville & Greely have 3 of the top 4 seeds in the race, they'll be in the same heat. Old Town is putting in it's best team, they have the top seed 1:52.05, which is close to 1.7 faster than the rest of the field. Should be a great heat to end the meet.
Sprints/Hurdles
55 Meter Hurdles This will be another good race, and an important one for the Purple Panthers as they have the #1 & #5 seeds. State leader Olivia Thurston (Waterville) ripped a new personal best in winning the KVAC title last weekend, Thurston's time was 8.79 . Carly O'Brien (Traip) is the only other girl seeded under 9 seconds with her 8.93. Last year's 7th place finish Christine Parrilli (Winslow) is the #3 seed 9.01, while 2010 3rd place finisher Doe Leckie (Lake Region) 9.09 appears to be hitting her peak at the right time after winning the WMC over O'Brien last weekend. Alexa Frame (Waterville) 9.11 also is running fast at the right time.
400m The 400m dash race could be a big one in deciding the team champion. While freshman Tia Jackson (Old Town) the #1 seed will try to win a state championship, if she does it could give her Coyote teammates a big boost. #2 seed Corrin Bedell (Fryeburg) was the surprise winner of the WMC title last weekend, she'll look to continue her strong post-season run. Olivia Thurston (Waterville) is the #3 61.6, if she can move up Waterville will get a boost, while #4 seed Jessica Wilson (Greely) will look to move up as well.
55 Meter Dash The fast times in the dash came at the conference championship meets, and hopefully that was a sign of things to come at the state championships too. Last year's runner-up Amanda Peterson (GNG) won the WMC title in 7.50 to earn to the top seed, she'll be pushed by last year's 4th place and WMC runner-up Emily Mitchell (York), 7.55. Mitchell will be looking to keep the title of "Fastest Girl in Class B" with York, a wildcat athlete has won the last 4 years. Maddie Page (Hermon) & Sage Hennessey (Fryeburg) are tied for the #3 at 7.59.
200m Another race that that could come down to a photo finish. Maddie Page (Hermon) & Amanda Peterson (GNG) come in with indentical seed time of 26.88. Page (lane 3) will have the advantage of being able to chase Peterson (lane 4). #3 seed Tia Jackson is the 3rd girl under 27, with her 26.94. Watch the outside lanes with Sage Hennessey (Fryeburg) in 5 and Waterville's Olivia Thurston in 6, both very talented runners who will have an easier turn than those in the inside lanes.
Distance
Mile Bethanie Brown (Waterville) is the top seed after her state leading 5:16.5 to win the KVAC meet last weekend. Poland's Kendra Lobley had been the only girl under 5:20 this season until Brown's big run last weekend, Kendra comes in with a 5:18.7. These two could wage an intense battle for the top spot. The defending champion Rachel Nichols (Cape) has the 3rd fastest seed time, she's been battling a hip issues. Greely freshman Kirsten Sandreuter is the 4th seed, she'll be looking to move up to give the Rangers some valuable points in the team race.
800 The top 6 seeds are seperated by just 3 seconds meaning this could be a tight race until the final stretch. Hermon's Katie Feeney is the top seed running 2:24.99 last weekend in the EMITL championship. Feeney will have the advantage of not running the Mile or 400 before as many of her competitors will do, she was 4th last year in the event. Kendra Lobley has doubled well all year so don't expect that to stop her from running fast, she's also the defending champion. Ellsowrth freshman Aleeta Looker is the #3 seed 2:25.8, with Maggie Bryan (John Bapst) 2:26.10. #5 seed Jessica Wilson (Greely) is attempting the 400-800 double, if she can pull it off her team will get a big boost.
2Mile If last weekend was any indication the rest of the 2 mile field in Class B may see a lot of the back of Waterville's Bethanie Brown's jersey during the race. Brown cranked a state leading 11:34.02 as part of a distance double at the KVAC Class championship. Kendra Lobley (Poland) is the #2 seed but will be on her 3rd race of the day. Winslow's Molly Schassberger is the #3 seed. Freshman Kirsten Sanreuter (Greely) is the #4 seed if she runs only the mile beforehand she'll be looking for a top 3 finish. Cape's Kelsey Barton may have the freshest legs as she's only in the 4x800.
Field
Shot Put Falmouth's Kate Sparks has had a great season adding distance to her throws seemingly every week this season. She's at 38-0 3/4 now, and is the heavy favorite to win the state title. This event is huge in the team title, as Greely has the #2 & #4 (Katherine Harrington & Cassidy Storey) resoectively, while Waterville is seeded #3 with Emily Sakal.
Long Jump The top 2 jumpers in the field have almost a foot over the rest of the jumpers. York's Emily Mitchell popped off the first 17ft jump in the state to the WMC title last weekend, while Carley O'Brien (Traip) has consistently been in the high 16's all season long. This is a big event for Greely as they are seeded #3, #5, #6.
Triple Jump Hannah Hill of Belfast is the only girl to have jumped over 35ft this season, her best jump is 35-3 1/2. The rest of the field is tightly packed with jumpers 2-6 seperated by just 7 1/2 inches. The field is very deep as well with 6 girls at 34ft or better. Kayla Brooks (Old Town) is the #2 seed (34-7.5), while Greely's Meaghan Crowley is the #3 seed (24-2 3/4)
High Jump John Bapst's Jen Daley is the top seed having jumped 5-2 this season. Two others have jumped 5-0 with York's Ashley Lomasney & Old Town's Katie DeShane. Greely is seeded tied for the 4th best jump with Kaley Sawyer if she can move up these could be some vaulable team points, Sawyer's dad, Kevin is the Class A record holder in the event on the boys side.
Pole Vault Shelby Wheeler (Orono) the defending champion is the favorite to repeat, she comes in with 10-0 seed, 1 1/2 ft above the next three seeded at 8-6.

BOYS
Wow this meet should be back and forth with a handful of teams in the mix. Falmouth comes in a slight favorite, they are seeded for 67 points, they have the best sprint team which is seeded for 33 points. Old Town has several socring options, they come in seeded with 65 points, with 29 points from the field events. Waterville is in the mix too they are seeded for 63 points, including 26 in the field events. Don't count out Greely they are seeded for 52, the availabilty of Sam Mason is huge for them. Hampden is seeded to score over 50 points as well (51).
Relays
4x800 Only 2 Teams are entered with seed times under 9 minutes with Mattanawcook Academy leading the way with a 8:49.78. Look for Hampden Academy with Evan Piccirillo to challenge as well. Don't overlook the seed times from other schools either, I'd expect Falmouth & York to be in the mix as well.
4x200 This could be an exciting to end the meet, the two teams Falmouth & Old Town both ran their top times with their best athletes Will Wegener (Fal) & Jake Leithiser (OT) who won't be running as they are in individual events, so this could open it up to have more teams in the mix. Hampden has run very well all year and could be the team to challenge.
Sprints/Hurdles
55m Hurdles Old Town's Jake Leithiser has been the top hurdler all year, he cranked a sub 8 peformance early on and has been consistently low 8's the whole season, he appears to be back on form as he was under 8 again in the EMITL title. His top compeititor is WMC champion Reid Pryzant (Falmouth), Pryzant clocked 8.08 for a personal best last weekend. Alex Rowe (Waterville) is the #3 seed, his best time is 8.45
55m This is a showdown with the top 3 seeds just about the same times, Will Wegener (Falmouth) ran 6.71 for his seasonsal best. Isaiash Spofford (Waterville) comes in with a 6.72, although he did run a 6.67 at the Darmouth in early January. #3 Dominic Sintetos (Winslow) best in 6.73. Good thing there is automatic timing as these 3 if they make the final could be a blanket finish. This race will be huge for the team title as well. Watch for Jacob Buhelt (Falmouth) he has run against Jr. division competition all year, maybe getting in with the big boys will make him go faster
400m This should be one of the better races in the meet, Will Wegener (Falmouth) cranked a new state leader last weekend 51.17, in the process he set the WMC conference record. Chasing Wegenger will be Jake Leithiser (Old Town) 51.60, Lani Eversage (Belfast) is the #3 seed 52.24, while #4 seed Josh Brooks (York) had a huge breakthrough going from 54.x down to 52.35 last week.
200m This will be another key event in the meet. Will Wegener (Falmouth) is once again the #1, the 3rd event he is the top seed, he ripped 23.17 last weekend, and the fast Bates track could mean a sub 23, he'll be pushed all the way by Waterville standout Isaiah Spofford who has a best of 23.19. Mile Eben Hodgkins (Erskine) has a little over 5 seconds on the field 4:37.01, he's the only runner in the field under 4:40 this year. Jeff Hale (Waterville) had a breakthrough last weekend at the KVAC meet running 4:42.79, he'll be looking to replicate that on Monday, he'll have to old off Liam Campbell (Greely) who is seeded less than .3 behind with a 4:42.97. Mitchell Finitz (York) is another to keep an eye on he has been getting faster with each race. This race is most important for the Rangers of Greely as they need some big points.
800m The race for the top spot appears to between two athletes, Evan Piccirillo (Hampden) the top seed 2:02.42 & Nicholas Byers (Hermon) 2:02.65. Piccirillo & Byers races at the EMITL with Piccirillo holding Byers off. They should be neck and neck once again.
2Mile Eben Hodgkins (Erskine) has the top seed 10:05.63, he'll be looking to win the distance double. Look for Ellsworth freshman Dan Curts to challenge though, Curts is only running the 4x800 and will have relatively fresh legs to challenge Hodgkins. The competition for the scoring position should be very good as #3-#6 there is just a 3 second spread. This will be another key event in the team title race.
Field
Shot Put The Greely duo of Michael Burgess 53-6 & Jack Fellows 52-11 will look to get the Rangers off to a strong start by finishing 1-2 in the shot. Burgess & Fellows have been very consistent this year throwing over 50ft almost every time out. Cam Woodford (Poland) is the #3 seed 48-11 3/4, also watch for Falmouth Andrew Kowalsky (47-3 1/2) he finished 3rd at WMC championship
Long Jump Greely's Sam Mason is the top seed, and only jumper seeded over 20ft. His health is a big question mark for the Rangers, if he is able to compete then they would get a big boost. If not Asa Arden (Yarmouth) 19-11 1/4 & Conor Perry (Hampden) 19-10 would be most likely to challenge for the top spot. Less than 6 inches seperates seeds #2-#6, should be a close one.
Triple Jump This is a key event for Waterville, they are seeded 1-2 with Alex Rowe (42-6 1/4) & Isaiah Spofford (42-5). Old Town counters with two jumpers over 40ft too, with Matt Richard (40-10) #3 seed & Daniel Gastia (40-4 3/4) #5 seed. Greely's Austin Spencer is the #4 seed 40-5 3/4
High Jump Jake Leithiser is the top seed having cleared 6-4, he should be challenged by York's Tyler Martin (6-2) & Connor Perry (Hampden) 6-0. Old Town also has another potential scorer in Matt Richard (5-10) #4 seed.
Pole Vault This will be another key event for the team title. #1 seed Ryan Turner (Winslow) 12-6 is the only vaulter over 12ft, but nothing is a guarentee as Turner NH at the KVAC championship last week. Waterville has a big time scorer in Devin Burgess who won the KVAC title last weekend, he's best jump is 11-6. Old Town has two vaulters seeded to score Zachary Labree (11-0) & Robbie Keane (10-0)

Event Spotlight
GIRLS
The team title should be a tight race throughout with Waterville and Greely the teams most likely to challenge for the to spot. Old Town has an outside shot of a podiun finish too. The Purple Panthers are the best team on the track where they are seeded to score 61 points. Greely on other hand is seeded to score 35 points in the field. Old Town will rely on it's sprinters and strong field events. Should be a very competitive meet, with several outstanding performances.
Relays
4x800 This will be a very good event to start the meet off with as the top 5 teams are seperated by just 10 seconds. Greely is the top seed with a seasonal best 10:29.9 with the John Bapst's Crusaders right off their heels seeded at 10:31.8. Waterville who is the pre-meet favorite has the 3rd seed, and could run distance standout Bethanie Brown. Cape Elizabeth is the 4th seed led by Rachel Nichols. While the 5th seed Ellsworth is the defending champion.
