SMAA GIRLS: Gorham, Thornton, Noble @ Portland

The Thornton Academy Girls team started off their SMAA season with a strong performance on Monday. The Golden Trojans won a 4 way meet scoring 123, Gorham was the runner-up 97, with Noble in 3rd with 32, & host Portland 16. Highlights for Thornton Academy were in the Shot put as seniors Abby Huntress & Emily Morin launched the #1 & #2 throws in the state this spring. Huntress had a huge personal best, and for the first time threw over 39ft, getting it all the way out to 39-4, teammate Morin also had a personal bets of 37-7 1/2.  Huntress also followed up with a win in the discus with a 109-10 throw with Morin right behind in 2nd 104-7. TA took the first 4 spots in the shot on Monday with all 4 girls nothicng state qualifying marks, they did the same is the discus with 3 state qualifying marks.  Other highlights came from Portland's Mary Nymebo who on the 100 (13.0)/200 (27.6), Sarah Perkins (Gorham) who won the 100m (15.5) & 300m (50.1) Hurdles & Samantha Pomeroy (Noble) in the 800m (2:31.2).00m (2:31.2).
