Maine Boys Cross Country Performer of the Week (Sep. 7-13)

After another week of cross country racing in Maine, it's time to vote for the MileSplit Maine boys cross country performer of the week.

This Week's Nominees:

Mateo Diaz, Falmouth High School (Maine): A 16:11.50 clocking over 5K led a 195-runner field at the 2026 Southern Maine Classic, with 47.0 seconds separating first from second. The freshman now sits at No. 19 of 1,489 athletes in MileSplit's database at the Gorham XC course @ Narragansett since 2019.

Atticus Merriam, Scarborough High School (Maine): A 5K clocking of 15:45.79 at the 2026 Southern Maine Classic carried him to the win among 174 finishers, 18.8 seconds clear of the runner-up. That mark also improved his prior clocking on the Gorham XC course @ Narragansett by 13.0 seconds, placing him No. 9 of 1,488 athletes in MileSplit's database at that course since 2019.

William Morris, Dirigo High School (Maine): Covering 5K in 16:26.49 at the Hall-Dale Meet, the senior took first out of 48 finishers and separated from the field by 59.9 seconds. The time stands as the fastest recorded in MileSplit's database at the Hall-Dale XC course since 2019 among 85 athletes, and improved his own prior mark there by 18.3 seconds.

Pierce Gorneault, Caribou High School (Maine): A 5K time of 16:50.65 at the Presque Isle XC Invitational was good for first among 43 finishers, 56.1 seconds ahead of the runner-up. It marks the fastest time in MileSplit's database at the University of Maine Presque Isle XC course since 2021 across 149 athletes, cutting 46.6 seconds off his previous showing there.

Wyatt Oliver, Mt. Blue High School (Maine): Only 1.3 seconds kept this from being a photo finish at the Leavitt Area HS Home Meet, where a 5K clocking of 17:05.62 held off a field of 70 for first place. The junior improved his prior time on the Leavitt Area High School course by 97.5 seconds, moving to No. 4 of 245 athletes in MileSplit's database there since 2019.
