AUGUSTA -- With all the talk about bad weather lately, it's comforting to read the forecast for today's Scot Laliberte Invitational at Cony High School: Temperatures in the 70s, with a slight breeze.

The cross country season gets an unofficial start at the Scot Laliberte Memorial race Friday at Cony High School. More than 20 teams are expected to compete.
"We just go out and have fun," Cony coach Shawn Totman said. "This is a preseason race. It's a nice gauge to see how you measure up against other teams, but there's so much left in training it doesn't mean a tremendous amount."
The race was organized by former Cony coach Tom Wells and honors Laliberte, a former Cony runner who was killed in an automobile accident in 2000. Laliberte's mother, Trudy, will be on hand to distribute awards.
