Ladd repeats, Nagy impressive in debut

Messalonskee’s Harlow Ladd dominated the rest of the boy’s field at the Scott Laliberte Invitational cranking the 2.4 mile course in 13:25 to finish 44 seconds in front of runner-up, and last year’s Class A runner-up Andy Reifman-Packett of Mt Ararat (14:09). The Brunswick duo of Jamie Ross & Benson Worthington took the next two spots (14:15 & 14:16) respectively, with Thomas Salamone (South Portland) rounding out the top 5 (14:23).
In the girl’s race with 3-time race winner Abby Mace opting not to run this season, a newcomer to XC this fall, Ezsberet Nagy of Lawrence showed she’ll be one to keep an eye on. Nagy didn't run like a rookie as she covered the 2.4 mile course in 15:30, good for 26th place overall with boys & girls combined, her time was 1:27 faster than the girls runner-up. The girls runner-up was Teresa Murphy (Brunswick) who placed 70th overall (16:57).
The trip up to Augusta was well worth it for Andrew Lupien’s South Portland Red Riots boy’s team as they were impressive, placing 5 runners in the top 24 overall. In the boys race they scored an impressive 63 points, 53 points in front of Brunswick (116), with Lewiston in 3rd (138). On the girls side the Dragons of Brunswick were the top squad with 3 of the top 10 girls overall scoring 545. Mt. Ararat was the runner-up with 597 with Mt. Blue in 3rd 631.
Teamwise in the unique format of the Laliberte Invitational where the boys & girls results are tabulated together to have one team winner, the Brunswick Dragons took to top spot with a combined score of 661. Fellow KVAC rivals Mt. Ararat was 2nd (798) with Mt. Blue in 3rd (809).
