Matt McClintock of Madison won his 3rd straight Class C title, running the fastest time of the day 15:52. Carsyn Koch of Washburn repeated as the girls champion. Teamwise the NYA boys repeated as did the Merriconeag girls. More to come later
Senior Matt McClintock won his 3rd straight boys Class C title in impressive fashion as he clocked 15:52.97, the fastest time on the day by 17 seconds. It was well known heading into the race Matt wanted to be under 16 minutes with eyes on chasing the 15:40 mark set by Will Geoghegan 2 years ago. The course conditions didn't cooperative as the fields were slick, and footing wasn't all that great. That didn;t stop Matt from trying as he hit the mile in 4:56 just like last week, at the 2 Mile he was 4 second up on his performance from a week ago. McClintock was able to dig deep in the final mile and push to the finish line, where he was eyeing the clock in his final strides. A huge fist pump after he crossed the finish line let everyone know he was pleased.
While no one could match McClintock's pace, Chase Brown of Boothbay made a strong effort and in the process finished at the state runner-up for the 3rd time in a row. Brown clocked 16:37.63, faster than his effort from last week, and one that was good for 4th fastest overall. Josef Holt of Telstar ran well for 3rd place (16:55.86) the sophomore will be one of the favorites to win the title next year with McClintock & Brown graduating. Holt when after Brown early, but didn;t have enough to have with him the whole way
Jack Pierce of Merriconeag repeated his 4th place finish at the state meet from a year ago, Pierce clocked 17:02.35 to hold off Abshir Horor (Waynflete) 17:06.36. Karmeron Souza of Winthrop used his strength to nab the 6th place (17:21.51), earning himself a spot in the New England meet as well. EM champion Matt Guoid (Mattanawcook) was 7th 17:34.81, with Forrest Carle of Calais in 8th 17:40.56. Telstar's Ben Lewis crossed the line in 9th (17:43.48) while Alex Coffin (NYA) had a huge last mile to help NYA win the team title with his 10th place finish.

The NYA Panthers cruised to their 2 straight state title behind the surprising 10th place finish of senior Alex Coffin. Coffin had been running as the #4 runner most of the season, had the best race of his season, as he moved up over the final 2 miles to lead the Panthers. His race was important as regular #1 runner Cam Regan pushed too hard early on and struggled to the finish line in 33rd position. Also placing in the top 15 for NYA was Evan Kendall (11th) & Rudy Guliani (15th).
Waynflete the WM regional runner-up claimed the runner-up trophy in a very tight battle, leading the way for the Flyers was Abshir Horir (5th). Waynflete also got a strong effort from Josh Espy (12th). The Flyers had 108 to edge Boothbay by just 3 (111). Boothbay had strong days from Chase Brown (2nd) & Tom Brown (17th). Telstar was 4th with 115 points, they bounced back after a subpar day at the regional meet last week. Winthrop rounded out the top 5 teams with 133 points

The defending champion Carsyn Koch of Washburn is getting accustomed to playing a playoff soccer game on Friday and running the state championship xc race the following day. For the 2nd straight year, Koch has risen to the challenge crossing the finish line first to win the Class C title. Koch was never challenged on Saturday, as she got out to the early lead and never looked back. "I loved this course, it's all in the woods", Koch would comment after the race. Carsyn gradually extended her lead throughout, she reached the 2 mile in 13:00, 25 seconds up on runner-up Meagan Thomas of Lisbon. Koch would enjoy the home stretch as she cruised across the line in 20:17.74, 30 seconds better than the runner-up
WM regional champion Meagan Thomas was pleased with her runner-up finish, she had her best race of the season, setting a new personal best. Thomas battled with Waynflete's Martha Veroneau for much of hte first two miles before pulling away over the final mile. Boothbay's Sophia Thayer ran in 4th much of the race before moving up to 3rd in the final mile (21:01.55), while Veroneau nabbed the 4th position (21:10.60).
