MaineTrackXC Junior Girls 2011 Rewind
The junior class got a big boost when two track standouts switched over from Soccer to the trails this fall. Erzsebet Nagy (Lawrence) & Bethanie Brown (Waterville) both made huge impacts during the championship season, as won conference & regional titles, & both added state runner-up finishes in their respective classes. Brown would go on to finish 5th New England meet.
Nyajock Pan (SP) who was the MaineTrackXC top sophomore last fall had another solid season that featured a 7th place finish at the Class A state meet, where Pan had the 3rd fastest time for the class of 2013. Other standouts in the class of 2013 this fall were Charlotte Pierce (TA) 11th in Class A , Jocelyn Acheson (Massabesic) 45th in New England, Mackenzie Belyea (Caribou) 7th in Class B & Adrienne Carmack (John Bapst) 8th in Class B.
Teamwise, Class C champion Merriconeag was led by a pair of juniors in Teagan Wu & Zoe Chace-Donahue. For Class B runner-up Camden Hills Emily Lopez was the 3rd runner for the Windjammers.
The Class of 2013 has one more season to make an impact, with the amount of talent that shouldn't be difficult.
1. Erzsebet Nagy Top Junior
What a season it was for Lawrence junior Erzsebet Nagy. Nagy running in her first ever season of xc burst onto the scene at the opening season Laliberte Invitational &continued her success throughout the entire season. Nagy never finished lower than 2nd in any of her races this fall, she finished runner-up to Abbey Leonardi twice, once at the Festival of Champions & at the Class A state meet, the only over loss was to All-NE runner, Bethanie Brown. Nagy won the KVAC conference title, as well as the Eastern Maine Regional title. Erzsebet's time at the state meet was 30 second faster than the next junior. If this fall was any indication of how good she can be, we should be in for a treat next fall.
2. Bethanie Brown
Bethanie Brown (Waterville) made the transition from the track to the trails with great success this fall. Brown won 5 races this fall including the KVAC Class B title & the Class B Eastern Maine Regional title. Brown went on to nab a runner-up finish in the Class B State meet & finish her season off with her most impressive xc performance a 5th place finish at the New England Chmapionship where she ran a lifetime best 18:35. Next year could be even better for Brown as she now has a year of experience under her belt, look for her to challenge for a state individual title.
3. Nyajock Pan
Nyajock Pan (South Portland) had another strong season that saw her finish in the top 10 of all the major in-state meets. Pan finished 9th at FOC, was 5th at the Western Maine Regional championship, & 7th in the Class A state meet. She finished off her season with a fine 41st place finish at the NE Championships where she ran a seaosnal best 19:34. Pan will be one of top returners next fall she'll look to break into the top 5 at State meet after finishing 6th & 7th the last two years.
