Dunn & Bourget walk to national titles, Brown adds AT best 2 Mile @ New Balance Nationals

 

       What a weekend it was for the Maine track & field athletes that traveled to NYC for the New Balancce Indoor National Championships at the Armory.  Denzel Tomaszewski of Wells started off the weekend with a Maine All-time best at 60m, with his 7.15, taking down the year old record of McKenzie Gary. Tomaszewski competing in the emerging elite race just missed making the final by 1 spot.

On Saturday the racewalkers put on a show, as both national champions were from Edward Little HS, as Abby Dunn won her 2nd national indoor title while on the boys side racewalk newcomer Luc Bourget bested the field. The racewalk yielded 3 other All-American performances with Katie Flanders of Gorham finishing 6th in the girls race. On the boys side Ian Rixon of Medomak Valley was the runner-up while Bourget teammate Adam Robinson was 4th.

Sunday was another record breaking day as Bethanie Brown of Waterville capped of a brillant indoor season that saw her become the first girl under 5 minutes in the mile, with a 4th place All-American performance in the 2 mile. Brown's time of 10:29.04 shattered the Maine indoor All-time best of 10:37.18 held by Cassie Hintz from 2005.  Brown also placed 3rd in the emerging elite 800m on Friday with a personal best 2:15.44

Other notable performances were Harlow Ladd's 9:16.4 in the 2 mile one of the fastest 2 miles indoor in Maine history. Also the Mt. Ararat 4x400 relay (Will Hrinak, Ryan Smith, Nick Oram & McKenzie Gary) clocked the Maine AT #2 performance with there 3:27.90 finish.

Day 3 Highlights

  • Bethanie Brown of Waterville caps off indoors season with an All-American 4th place finish in the 2 mile. Brown shattered the Maine All-time best for 2 mile by over 8 seconds with her 10:29.04.

  • Harlow Ladd of Messalonskee had another strong run in the 2 Mile, finishing 5th in section 2. Ladd's time of 9:16.4 was a personal best & one of the fastest ever 2 mile run by a Mainer indoors. Watch RACE VIDEO

 

  • Aleta Looker of Ellsworth runs another personal best in the 800 2:16.03, good for 2nd in section of the seeded 800m races. RACE VIDEO

 

Day 2 Highlights

  • Edward Little's Abby Dunn walked her way to the national title in the girls 1 mile racewalk, Dunn who signed a scholarship to continue her walking career at Goshen College this week, capped it off with a winning time of 7:28.13

  • Luc Bourget of Edward Little took home the national title in the boys 1 mile racewalk with a fine 7:17.03 performance, it was Bourget first race of the season.

  • Katie Flanders (Gorham HS) earns AA status with her 6th place 7:43.81 performance
  • Ian Rixon of Medoma Valley was the national runner-up in the 1 mile racewalk clocking 7:24.02
  • Adam Robinson of Edward Little also earned AA status in the 1 mile racewalk with a 4th place 7:47.08
  • Austin Weigle (Kennebunk) walked to a 7th place finish in the 1 mile walk 9:09.30
  • Andrew Smith (Thornton Academy) finishes 10th in the freshman 60m 7.56 & then hits a personal best 53.72 in the 400m good for 16th overall  LINK TO 400 RACE VIDEO | LINK TO 60M Race Video
  • Brunswick's Alexis Dickinson 39th in the 60m dash trials, clocking 7.95
  • Edward Little girls 4x200 team runs 1:50.81 good for 49th
  • Jaclyn Masters of EL finishes 35th in the EE Pole Vault clearing 10-1 1/4

 

Day 1 Highlights

  • Jaclyn Masters (Edward Little)  finishes 47th in the Emerging Elite 60m dash running 8.13 LINK TO RACE VIDEO
  • Denzel Tomaszewski (Wells) breaks the All-Time Maine indoor record in the 60m 7.15 (Just missed the final places 9th in the trials)  Old record was set last year by McKenzie Gary (Mt Ararat) 7.17

  • Dan Curts (Ellsworth) with a huge personal best in the 2 mile 9:28.88, good for 7th in the EE race LINK TO RACE VIDEO
  • Bethanie Brown (Waterville) runs a personal best in the fast section of EE 800M, her time places her 3rd overall 2:15.44
