True wins the 3k at Morton Games, sets a stadium record and is now the all-time fastest Maine born athlete at 3k
Ben True is returning to top form over in Europe as he won the 3k at the Morton Games on Wednesday running a personal best 7:44.4. True blistered the last lap in 56 to hold off a strong push from Elliott Heath, the mark broke the stadium record of the great Eamonn Coghlan by 12 seconds. Ben ran a smart race staying behind the rabbit and top 2 runners for 5 laps then asserting himself at the front of the race, and finishing with a powerful kick. For True who is still in the process of recovering from a case of suspected lyme disease his last two efforts indicate he's well on his way to becoming at 100%. True ran a personal best 13:20.53 for 5k last Saturday in the Flanders Cup 5k, the mark moves him to #2 on the all-time list for Maine born athletes, his mark for 3k surpassed the mark of former Nike/William & Mary star Matt Lane (7:45.72) for the fastest Maine athlete in history.
