The York High School Cross Country team’s 24th annual alumni meet, “The Bill Fisher Race” was held last Saturday. The race is named for the late coach, Bill Fisher, who founded the program in 1945. York Alumni won the meet by a score of 20-39. The Alumni currently lead the series 16-8.

Sixty athletes ran 2 miles on the old high school course on Organug Road. Bill’s sons, Dave Fisher and Bill Fisher Junior were the official race starters.

Alex Moser (class of 2010) won the race in 11:32. Molly Carl (class of 2009) was the top woman with a time of 12:22.

Fifteen of the alumni are college runners and former college runners. Dr. Liz Turner ran a 2:50 at last week’s Philadelphia Marathon and is four minutes from qualifying for the U.S. Olympic trials.

Molly Carl is a sub five minute miler and the top women runner at the University of Southern Maine. Carl was sixth at last month’s NCAA division III New England Cross Country Meet and qualified for nationals.

Alex Moser is a 4:06 miler for the University of Maine and Brianna Eaton is a freshman at the United States Naval Academy and a member of their travelling marathon team.

The York High team included Josh Brooks, Nick Eaton, Kyle Morrison, Tucker Corbett, Christian O’Connor, Nate Bald, Alec Jordan, Matt Piazza, Evan Hultstrom, Crewe Schuessler, Ted Scontras, Sarah Tewksbury, Ali Jutras, Jackie Eaton, Nina Boutin and Emma Bychock.

The coaches’ team included Matt Weber, Roger Clements, Max Convery, Karen Potter, Dave Potter, Tabatha Schuessler, Stewart Turner, Pam Fisher, Nancy Eaton, Rodger Martin, Nikki Betts, Fin Convery and Julie Convery.
